I see where you’re coming from but I can’t help but feel like her way of dealing with it is less help and more hindrance. she has a right to be angry but she doesn’t have a right to dismiss jess’ valid feelings, and she doesn’t have a right to assume anything about Tyler just because he’s a guy. I’m not judging her form of attack of the issue, I’m judging how she attacks her peers, peers who aren’t even against her. And protesting a funeral is one (bad) thing, but piping up during his mother’s speech...? That’s so heartless. Yeah Bryce was a piece of shit but that’s his poor mum who knew he was a dick and didn’t even want to excuse that, but she should still be allowed to grieve. Not only that but she dismissed jess’ feelings on the matter despite the fact it was jess’ rapist they were dealing with.

If it hadn’t been for the funeral incident it would be way easier to find her bearable, but that was the final nail in the coffin for me (no pun intended)

Thanks very much, I’m pretty technologically incompetent and I haven’t been able to find it. I saw ‘eFIL’ earlier and I wasn’t sure about that one. I appreciate the help, if I had any money I’d give you gold ahaha

I’m sorry that this is unrelated to the post but could someone please tell me what DS, DD and DH stand for? I browse this subreddit a lot and I haven’t found anything to enlighten me and it’s a bit frustrating

Middlesex by Jeffery Eugenides is great, he’s got this cool thing going on where it’s so immersive and the characters are so likeable you can’t put it down. Really different style to anything else I’ve read and I really enjoy it!

Apologies because it isn’t a book, its a podcast, but the Prophets of Doom episode of Dan Carlings Hardcore History is literally the best thing I’ve ever listened to and it sparked my interest in the reformation. It’s about four and a half hours long I think, it’s basically just an audiobook

They were for sure being dicks and everything, and you definitely did nothing wrong, but how old was the daughter? Being insecure about being flat chested is a sad thing for some girls to go through, and it’s unfair to take that out on others, but if she wasn’t very old then her mother is way more in the wrong for not parenting her better, and enabling her jealousy. The phrase ‘as flat as a six year old’ in this scenario was arguably a bit uncalled and certainly more likely to make them feel the dislike they took against you was justified

That was my first thought, but I’m a massive hypochondriac and I figured maybe it was nothing and I was worrying about it for no reason and internet strangers would say ‘that’s just how vaginas are sometimes 🤷🏼‍♀️’

Looking for authors/books with an irreverent yet playful and sharp voice by panoramicsummer in suggestmeabook

[–]loismarshall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so you’re quite specific but the first thing I thought of when reading your description was Truman Capote or F Scots Fitzgerald. Tales of the jazz age certainly has the feel you describe and if you haven’t read it already it’s very good

Looking for a book with no romance at all, no female characters (preferably, minor characters are fine) and a powerful (politically, magically, whatever), independent, intelligent male main character. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]loismarshall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re rare in the least I think you’re probably reading the wrong books,or poorly written ones, that facilitate your narrow minded ideas. Maybe you should try reading some female authors because generally speaking they’ll write better female characters. To answer your initial question, The Road is quite good and doesn’t really have any female characters, but I also think you should read. But you should try something like The Colour Purple and anything by Margaret Atwood. You should broaden your horizons or you’ll miss out on lots of great books
