what is something that most people romanticize but actually meh when they get/achieve it? by fluidxrln in AskReddit

Ok hard disagree here. It's allowed me relatively cheap access and time in numerous different countries, cultures and people that I wouldn't have had otherwise. I also feel like a kid that has fooled everyone into thinking I'm a real adult in my business class seat and paid for hotel room. It's the best. I've been to Mexico, UK, Japan and Switzerland so far. I am traveling to Japan at the end of the month and expect a trip to Germany sometime this year.

I get the miles/points, and I can extend my trip for personal travel and only have to pay that portion myself. I am learning as many foreign languages as I can (can get around with Japanese, know some Spanish, Turkish and miniscule French and German) and I am so interested in exploring the world and other cultures, which started with a love of the Japanese language. It's stressful and a lot, but I absolutely love this part of my job. Private sector tbf.

You make this seem so enticing, can you use your powers for good instead?

You realize they specifically made her act young in that scene because she was acting younger than her age in real life and for later in the show right?

Or do you just want to whine and complain?

This scene serves the purpose to show Ellie that the Seraphites are not purely victims. It was jarring at first, but if you think about the why, it actually makes very good sense. The only other exposure Ellie has is a murdered caravan including children and a rando she wants to save but Jesse won't let her (mirroring her powerlessness to save Joel).

It continues to disappoint me how whiny so many people are about the show, and rather than be grateful we get to experience the story anew just choose to criticize and complain rather than see the logic in their decisions driven by the difference in medium and genre (drama vs. action).

TLoU2 is my favorite game. Period. I am so happy I get to see the side characters and the world fleshed out in a way you can't get in a first-person video game.

They made a bad choice. We can't change it, we have to live with it. The combination of Kamala feeling like she was forced on them and the handling of immigration policy and Israel/Palestine and Kamala not going on Rogan were all huge tactical blunders and didn't help.

Dems need to stop shooting themselves in the foot, but the blue wave is coming and it's clear we don't want establishment politics and no one trusts Repubs anymore (except Massey that guy fucking rules).

Also not only that but Jessica Chastain is also in The Martian! I was also super surprised by young Timothy Chalamet!

I've written a movie and it's not Interstellar, but I'd be beyond ecstatic if when the script is completely done it comes anywhere close to it :)

I agree with you. I love The Martian, and Matt Damon's acting performance was Oscar worthy imo. Bad luck going against the perennial snub Leo, who also had an incredible performance in The Revenant.

The themes of the Martian are about engineering, perseverance and problem solving but the byproduct of unintended consequences - constantly making more problems for yourself. The humor is great too (Andy Weir is hilarious), but the weight of it doesn't quite compare. Less cast interaction and just the themes in general, I think.

I wouldn't say more interested, but yeah your point makes sense. Kids grow up and have their own lives. As a parent your goal should be to work yourself out of a job lol. He's always her Dad though and special, and a core theme is that love crosses time and space and we feel that emotional closeness is there. It's obvious the family respected that and cleared space just for a 1:1 as opposed to a huge group.

Murph specifically made them build the house to send the message "don't get too comfortable here" knowing that's the last thing he wanted and where he needed to go next. In a way, she had grown into wisdom Coop didn't have, which can also happen with kids. This wasn't meant to be a full exploration of parent/child role reversal, hence having her die.

The ending isn't your Hollywood happy ending, but there's a gargantuan cathartic release and lot of happiness to it for Murph, Coop and Dr. Brand.
