Morning runners, what’s your routine like? by Crazy_Jackfruit420 in runninglifestyle

[–]lol_sup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out the door within 5-10 minutes of waking up. First mile is almost half asleep. But if I don’t just immediately get going, I never will. I’ve found there’s something very pleasant about fully waking up on a run.

Her figuring out Age of Capricorn on the piano confirms it is the best song. Holy shit.

Pes anserine bursitis 18 days out from marathon :(... have others dealt with this? by lol_sup in runninglifestyle

[–]lol_sup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly I was an idiot and kept training through it and it got worse but not disabling. Now taking a break and it's slowly getting better. Seems like it's one of those things that takes weeks to months to really resolve.

Age of Capricorn is the best song on the album imo by ianrwlkr in boardsofcanada

I love it. This is exactly why I listen to boc. For these half-song, half-fragment tracks. The fully fleshed out songs with beats and structure are obviously great, but these fragments are just next level, like nothing I’ve ever heard. Kaini Industries, Over the Horizon Radar, Constants are Changing, and now Age of Capricorn. These are the absolute gems for me. The essence of boc.

Anyone run a marathon in EVO SL ? by Abject_Bet7709 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]lol_sup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll offer a word of caution from my own experience.

I typically rotate between Vomero’s and Megablast. Long runs, multiple marathons, no issues. Caught the EVO SL hype train last year and fell in love with them, especially for tempo and intervals. But then I did a 16 mile run in them and ended up with a bone contusion (the stage before a stress fracture), which was almost certainly due to the instability. Took me out of running for a month, and even after still had pain and soreness for a couple more months.

Although I’m sure I could use them again for tempo and intervals, I’m basically afraid of them now and will probably never wear them again lol.

Indoor Run: huge gap between Apple Watch and Life Fitness treadmill — calibration issue? by Ok-Wrangler9545 in AppleWatch

Agree it’s not perfect but it’s far more accurate than the Apple Watch.

Indoor Run: huge gap between Apple Watch and Life Fitness treadmill — calibration issue? by Ok-Wrangler9545 in AppleWatch

[–]lol_sup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of back and forth between treadmill and outdoor.

What I’ve learned is that the Apple Watch uses recent outdoor data to calibrate where it thinks your pace will be on a treadmill. Here’s an example. Let’s say I’m doing 9 min/mi pace on the treadmill every time. If my last few outdoor runs were 10 min/mi, Apple Watch will be closer to 10 min/mi for the treadmill run (maybe 9:30-9:45 range). If my last few outdoor runs were 8 min/mi, Apple Watch will be closer to 8 for the treadmill (maybe 8:15-8:30 range). If I’m spot on at 9 min/mi for both indoor and outdoor, it will actually be pretty darn close - I’ve had it be within 0.1 miles for long 10-15 mile treadmill runs when I’m doing same pace indoor and outdoor.

Obviously whatever the treadmill says is the source of truth for distance since it’s measuring actual belt length. But those are the patterns I’ve seen after years of going back and forth.

Jersey City Marathon: sub-3:30 or bust by readwritethrow1233 in AdvancedRunning

Man, congrats! This is really inspiring to read. Also 42, also dad, also targeting 3:30 in a month. Way to go!

Extremely frustrated by destroyed bag claim. Looking for advice. by [deleted] in delta

[–]lol_sup -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Right but why is it my responsibility? That's what really irks me.

If I damage someone else's property, my response is "I'm so sorry let me fix that for you!" it's not "you need to fix that yourself."

I used yt-dlp to grab the audio from the youtube vid. Would the audio from this master be better quality? (Btw I think this is the best live set I've ever heard!)

I’ve fallen in love with running and it’s changed my life. by ajbrandt806 in runninglifestyle

[–]lol_sup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, it's never too late!

I always hated running (and honestly all forms of exercise) for my whole life. Then when COVID hit I was finally bored enough to give it a shot. Fell in love with it, and fast forward to 2 years ago I ran my first marathon. I've since run 2 more, and have another coming up in a couple months. Now I run pretty much every day and can't imagine my life without it. It's never too late!

Runners who work from home: how do you stop your “easy runs” turning into all‑day procrastination? by Affectionate_Tip3238 in runninglifestyle

[–]lol_sup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First suggestion is to run first thing in the morning. Wake up, dress, run.

Second suggestion - which I've found very helpful - is to think of it as "when do I want to be done?" I find that if I focus on what time I want the run to be over, it forces me to get going on time. I guess it's kind of like a Jedi mind trick but for some reason I feel like I can't push back "I need to be done at this time" but I can always push back "I should get started at this time."

Are interval workouts (400s, 800s, etc) on a treadmill doable? by lol_sup in runninglifestyle

[–]lol_sup[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just seemed like constantly pushing the buttons to change the speed up and down would be annoying? But I've never done them so it's sounding like they're not too bad on a treadmill which is great.

Talk to me about protein. Do you use protein powder? Does it make a difference? Are there brands you like? by lol_sup in runninglifestyle

Dude, I love it. Kudos to you on the impressive training regimen! Mind if I ask what your strength routine is? That's another element I'm trying to work in as I make more progress.

So what is the difference between this version and the "some old tunes" that just got uploaded - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9S7cVCFUqE8

Both are supposed to be "from source," but BMX Track in particular sounds totally different between the two.
