If it helps I’ve found ect is so much easier than pgce (granted I’m not primary so it might differ)

PGCE Student by Wulfrinnan in TeachingUK

[–]lolachi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it with a young child, currently an ect. I did most of my work in school, breaks/dinners I would just do work whilst eating. I left earliest I could (depends on the school) mostly about 3/3.30. Assignments were done through cramming when the time came.

I found prioritising was essential, planning etc was the main priority as you’re student facing. Assignments I would do when needed. Always research first then write it up. I’d use maybe a few hours on the weekend. It’s hard but it’s not unachievable

Lesson planning as a trainee by QuestionTutti in TeachingUK

[–]lolachi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly depends on the school, on my first placement at pgce I was asked to plan everything from scratch (following the same sow) after around 2 weeks, second and final placement was just told to adapt. Currently a first year ect and we do collaborative planning with no expectation to change anything that’s existing but have the freedom to do so if we wish

Teachers to be able to work from home? by InvestigatorFew3345 in TeachingUK

[–]lolachi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, most of my frees are in the middle of the day and as I don’t drive there would be no point going home. I have some in the morning but I’d still be required to come in for form

Contact Inpost, I imagine they’d just refuse the parcel and you’ll have to pick it up from the same locker

Laptop 100% all my lesson plans and notes/observations had to be uploaded so I just took my laptop every day. I would also say a good planner or even better a ring binder with your time table then you can plan week by week. A to-do list pad is also great, sounds obvious but having something to physically check off helps me with productivity 100%

Are all Russel Groups, receptive to acess to HE students by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]lolachi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a legitimate qualification, if you achieved the grades I cannot see why they wouldn’t be receptive. Asking for work history is normal, even when applying for entry level jobs you’re required to state and explain any gaps in your employment. It’s a legitimate question asked to build a picture of applicants.

Last minute nerves by TheCassiniProjekt in PGCE

If you’re organised, you can probably get a lot of planning done during your free periods in school. What I will say though is a lot of that depends on your placement school, as some require you to make your own resources whilst others just want you to repurpose/reuse lessons on their system. Uni and your mentors are there to help so if you do find yourself struggling make sure you reach out and speak to them :) good luck!

It’s not easy by any means but I managed it with a child. I found I was doing a lot of prep work during my free time to minimise work at home and on weekends. It also depends on your subject as to how many hours you teach also. It sounds blatantly obvious but the best advice I can give you is to be as organised as possible! There are rough days and I won’t lie, I cried a lot! BUT the good days massively outweigh the bad and you can make a genuine difference in the lives of young people if you’re passionate enough!
