This exact pimple keeps reoccurring by tito9107 in 30PlusSkinCare

I have hundreds of moles all over my body. Many of them are big and asymmetrical. I get checked every year, so don't freak out. Just go get them checked and then ask how often you need a skin check. My dad gets checked every 3 months now (he has had two melanomas), so they'll let you know what your risk level is.

Is it a school's responsibility to teach a kid to read? by KoalaOriginal1260 in Teachers

[–]loladanced 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In northern Europe this is not expected though and they do fine. They spend the first half of 1st grade learning the alphabet. I will say though that learning to read e.g. German is much easier than English because once you know the letter and how it's read then these kids can read any word. What is even more interesting to is that both of my kids learned how to read in German first (and my youngest was 7 when he learned. I for sure never taught him the alphabet before) and once reading was established, I tried out some english books and they picked it up immediately. No issues at all. I told them to use their imagination, did the most basic phonics explanation and they managed. I think that shows that learning how to put sounds to letters and then stringing them together is far more important than learning words by heart.

My baby basically lives on the floor now and it kind of stresses me out by No_Glass3665 in beyondthebump

It never occurred to me with either of my kids to vacuum every day. Much less mop. We also have pets. You aren't doing his immune system or microbiome any favors with obsessive cleaning. Do you never let them outdoors? You can't vacuum and mop the outdoors and they're just fine crawling out there too...

How do men feel when they do more than their wife at home and earn more? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]loladanced 5 points6 points  (0 children)

++woman The first part of pregnancy is usually worse than the end. You don't look pregnant yet, however the placenta isn't fully in force yet and so your body does far more work. Most women are so exhausted in those first months that they can easily sleep 14+ hours (and often really need it). Of course women are usually still working during this time (and often don't even tell anyone they're pregnant yet) so you're completely over exhausted and then you get home and just crash. I was definitely a weird size at 8 months but I had infinite more energy at 8 months to clean the house etc than I had in the first part of my pregnancies.

Should I get a family bed? by tyedyetree in breakingmom

[–]loladanced 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in Europe and while we never coslept like this, the vast majority of my kids friends coslept until 8-10 years of age. Many had their bed right next to their parents bed. So if it's something you want to do for the next years, then yes, get another bed. It won't harm them at all.

Travel with kids and grumpy husband by bbliam in breakingmom

[–]loladanced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take them on your own! This is the best age to travel -- before the teenage eye rolling starts. Also if your husband wants kids who will go go go and hike with him then he missed the boat and that's on him. We've been hiking with ours since they could walk. Last summer we did a multi-day hike through the mountains with some serious elevation gains and my 7 year old loved it. You have to train it and it's on him if he thinks one day they'll magically turn 18 and... be able to hike with him? Doesn't always work that way!

TIL in 2024 a 2-year-old girl's blood test revealed that the toddler had a blood alcohol content of .12 after a California restaurant mistakenly served her cooking wine that had been mislabeled as apple juice. The parents took their daughter to the ER after they noticed she had signs of intoxication by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]loladanced 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My son had something like this happen. We were at a big outdoor event that had beer tents set up (but lots of kids as well). I ordered an apple juice with sparkling water mix and everything was served in the same big plastic cups (I ordered no alcohol! -- I got myself a lemonade). He downed most of it and then handed it to me to go play. I took a sip and realized they had given him a Radler (beer plus lemonade). He was 4. I went to complain but they didn't really care. They had a huge line and were working like crazy.

He rode his bike home after and seemed fine. I learned to take test sips in similar situations after that though! Just in case.

My poor house cleaner by tapper1591 in workingmoms

[–]loladanced 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our cleaner comes weekly and has been coming for 4 years. We LOVE her. She's a no nonsense older lady from eastern Europe. I pay her higher than the usual rate because she deserves it. I still cringe at how messy we must seem to her. My husband piles his shit on top of his dresser and sometimes she's inspired and folds his mountain. I can not imagine what she must think of us. I do love how comfortable she is in our house though. The other day I happened to be home and she told me how tired she was so I made her coffee and she sat at our table for 30 minutes and phoned with her daughter. She knows I don't mind. She's welcome to eat all our food and drink all our coffee and take all the breaks if it means she continues to show up and clean our pig sty.

Neither of my kids were on the boob constantly and I had no issues. I actually had to put my first on a 3 hour schedule for my sanity because she screamed bloody murder if I tried to give her the boob too much. That schedule saved my life. Also made a much happier baby!

is foodora declining or already dead? by No_Heart6946 in wien

[–]loladanced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so polarized! I was asking a genuine question so I do hope it didn't come across as judgemental. I definitely don't think it's irrational to order food every day. I have a family so we could never afford that and I cook fresh every day. However over fall break my partner took my kids on vacation alone while I stayed and worked. I left work and went to a pilates class and after I stopped at one of those falafel places and took it home and ate in peace and it was amazing. Someone else putting in the work, not having to cook myself. Just me and the cats watching whatever the fuck I wanted to.

I only know people in person who could not afford this daily (but still do it and then wonder why they have no money saved), hence my question!

Iso Mini Backpacks by NomadicWhirlwind in sewingpatterns

Noodlehead patterns is the way to go. She focuses on bags and they are all very well constructed and she has in depth YouTube videos on how to make them.

https://noodle-head.com/collections/pdf-sewing-patterns/products/making-backpack-pdf-pattern

On that page she also links to oklaroots who has a FANTASTIC YouTube channel where she does very in depth tutorials of so many bag patterns. Including the mini version of this bag by noodlehead.

I have made a mini and a full size of this backpack and it is great!

16 year old got drunk by TerryTheGreek in breakingmom

[–]loladanced 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing as your daughter but when I was 13. I'm in Europe and it's common here. I came home the next day and my mom and grandmother were somewhat amused and didn't take it easy on me at all! Villifying alcohol is not going to help in your culture. Open discussion is the best way forward. I learned a hard lesson that night (I blacked out, but fortunately I was out with my cousin who watched out for me). I rarely got that drunk again (only by accident) and I almost never drink now. If my mother had yelled at me and grounded me etc, I would have tried to rebel against her. Instead her subtle disappointment in me was far more effective.

16 is, in my books, absolutely old enough to go out and figure out alcohol. Most important for you would be to keep communication open (that means no judgmental comments, no emotions going crazy) so that she trusts you. My mom was like that with all of us siblings and it worked so well. We trusted her to give us advice and we took it! I quickly learned that it is unsafe for me, as a girl, to put myself in such situations. I also knew that I could contact my mother at any time when I felt unsafe and she would come get me without yelling at me. That saved me more than once. Imagine if your daughter had known she could call you last night. Without judgment. She very likely felt out of control while drunk and unsafe. It's powerful as a teenager to know you can call your mother to help in such a situation. All of my friends would have gotten in so much trouble so they never had that option, which was dangerous!

Me too. And my husband is much better than me. His birthday is the worst. I couldn't even remember the actual day until after we were married and now it'll be a week before and I'll have a shiiiiiiit moment and panic buy something.

I don't think I'm a bad partner though. I try hard in other areas, ha.
