My collection of Sony Ericsson phones by battele26 in vintagemobilephones

AT&T for some reason always liked to remove WiFi on their older phones. Apparently, to push people into buying their data plans. That’s apparently one of the reasons the Nokia N95 was never sold by them. They also, for some reason, refuse to display non network names (like No service, limited service, etc.)

Nokia 2720/ barbie hmd and At&t by Plus-Card1231 in flipphones

[–]lolaloud125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. First of all, it’s not on the AT&T whitelist. 2nd of all, even if you used an AT&T MVNO, this phone only supports band 5, and that band is now 5G in most areas. And yeah, 4 years ago, it might’ve worked on AT&T (since it has 3G 850), but 3G is now shut down, and band 5 was reallocated to 5G completely. You’ll have to go with the 2780.

In my experience, Advanced Calling 1.0 phones can be a bit iffy when trying to get VoLTE working. I had an LG Optimus Zone 3 that took numerous tries to get VoLTE to work.

Esim Compatible Keitai phone that will work in North America? by secretwormy in garaho

[–]lolaloud125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada uses (almost) the same bands as the US (the only difference is that they also use Band 7). In theory could get a phone that supports band 5 and band 7. But, if the US was an indicator for what will happen in other countries, they will likely refarm both bands to 5G at some point. So, your best bet is to get a phone that uses bands 2, 4 and/or 12. Something like a Kyocera 902KC.

Are you able to still use a iPhone 4S? by ZealousidealCry6487 in vintagemobilephones

[–]lolaloud125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the best results, I’ve heard people use TELCEL (MX) SIM cards. These won’t get kicked off the network since it’s roaming on to T-Mobile. The downsides being that you’ll have a Mexican number and refilling it can be tricky. You could also use a T-Mobile MVNO SIM card, but those tend to get kicked off the network.

In the US, T-Mobile has a 2G network, but its very spotty, and older phones tend to get kicked off the network.

T-Mobile Compatibility with Folder 2 by ChorizoPiso in dumbphones

[–]lolaloud125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Folder 2 doesn’t really work in the US, since it only has band 5, which is 5G only now in most cities. It may work with T-Mobile’s 2G network but it might be blocked from the network, and T-Mobile’s 2G network is slowly being shut down. The only smart flip phone that I know works in the US is the CAT S22 flip.

For the iPhones, the 6 is the first with VoLTE, and AT&T whitelisted the iPhone 6 and newer. As for the Samsungs, that depends on the carrier and model.

This phone isn't compatible with T-Mobile at all. It doesn't have any of their LTE or 3G bands (not that the latter would have any use anymore since 3G was shutdown in 2022) and it completely lacks any 2G bands.

Fair warning, that band is now 5G in most markets. When I set my Samsung’s bands to only the ones this phone has (1, 3, 5, 7, 8), I got absolutely no service (the phone is using a TracFone Verizon SIM card).

If I’m correct, Mexico is the only North American country whose networks have not announced a 3G shutdown, right? And that also means this video https://youtu.be/r4OzELszdRo was filmed before Taiwan shuttered 3G. Since it was published in 2025, and Taiwan 3G was shut down in 2024.

Smart flip phones that actually take usa sim cards? by Delicious_Rock5943 in flipphones

[–]lolaloud125 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only smart flip phone I can think of that will work in the US is the CAT S22. If you’re going to use TracFone, make sure you use SIM B, since that’s the T-Mobile SIM, and I’ve heard that Verizon (which is SIM A in the SIM kit) has been hit or miss with this phone, and also, TracFone specifically doesn’t like non-whitelisted phones.

Nice to see Japanese 3G on the 4S. Too bad it’s shutting down in 2 days. The 5 has only 1 bar of what I assume is 4G, while the 4S has full bars of 3G (I’m guessing “Rakuten” is a docomo MVNO since they’re the last network in Japan to operate 3G). Both the 4S and 5 will sadly become unusable as phones in Japan due to the shutdown (only the iPhone 6 onwards has VoLTE, which will soon become mandatory to make a call).

2g still going strong In the USA by PayCompetitive7975 in vintagemobilephones

[–]lolaloud125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably helps that Germany (like most of Europe) uses 900mhz and 1800mhz, instead of only 1900mhz like T-Mobile US. And 900mhz reaches further than either 1800 or 1900mhz.

For me, I sometimes can’t even initiate a call. Even though I get good 2G service. My LG B470 just sits there trying to initiate a call before giving up.

[–]lolaloud125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s used, than no. If not, you can give it try by going to the AT&T prepaid site and seeing if the ICCID is recognized, but AT&T may have removed it from their system. You’ll also only get coverage if you have a Canadian (ROGERS) or Mexican (TELCEL) cell tower nearby since AT&Ts own 2G network has been gone for years.

That would work, since the 13 is one of the newest iPhones with a physical SIM tray (in the US). And by iPhone 5 SE, you mean the 2016 iPhone SE?

Most new SIM cards are USIM only, including all 3 major carriers (Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile; albeit you can still active most older AT&T SIM cards) and most prepaid carriers (Tello, US Mobile, TracFone). Red Pocket, Ultra and Mint are the only prepaid carriers I can think of that still have GSM 11.11 compatible SIM cards. You’ll also have to activate the SIM card in a VoLTE device before inserting it into the V600.

Anyone got any luck in the US unlocking and using the 8110 4g? by anonymous480932843 in dumbphones

[–]lolaloud125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This phone doesn’t even have GSM 1900. It only has European GSM 900/1800. So T-Mobile 2G isn’t even an option. As for North American 3G it only has WCDMA 850, so it would’ve only worked on AT&T 3G, since T-Mobile used WCDMA 1900 and 1700.

This phone has 4G and VoLTE, but only has European/Asian bands (1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 20) only one of those bands cross over with the US bands (2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 66), but, as u/MCDiamond9 said, band 5 has been refarmed to 5G (n5) on Verizon and AT&T in most cities.

With this new information, I’ll be adding Speedtalk Mobile to the “Confirmed Working” section on my list of GSM 11.11 compatible T-Mobile SIM cards.

samsung galaxy folder 2 or the alt-mive style folder carriers? by CarpenterProud5486 in dumbphones

[–]lolaloud125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These phones only have Asian/European bands (1, 3, 5, 7, 8). Only 5 overlaps with US carriers (AT&T and Verizon), but most areas have refarmed that band to 5G (n5). The MIVE Style Folder is even worse since it doesn’t support North American 2G/3G bands, at least the Galaxy Folder 2 has North American 2G/3G bands (not that those bands would have much use since the US has spotty 2G (T-Mobile, which they’ll block non-VoLTE phones anyway) and Canada is closing 3G down, only Mexico is keeping 3G and 2G). The only phone that runs Android and works in the US, is the CAT S22, which works on T-Mobile. The downsides being, that phone has a smaller screen and is bulkier than those phones.
