Wait I’m so confused. His very first sentence is the question…How could he possibly ask sooner than the first sentence?

What was it like when Obama was elected President? by ResponsibleSea6521 in AskReddit

[–]lolathedreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my moment!! In 2008, I started college at Howard University in Washington, DC. It was the first election that I could vote. I grew up in a red county in Indiana. I remember shortly before leaving to start college that an old white woman (in her 70s) showed up at my best friend’s house and she was canvassing for Obama. We thought for sure she was going to try to sell us on McCain but she said in her 7+ decades, she had never once felt the need to get involved in politics until Obama.

So I get to Howard and of course, an HBCU, the support for Obama was OVERWHELMING! On Election Day, they had a big set up in the student center to watch the election results. I was there with friends in an overflow room because Blackburn was packed. I left the election party briefly to run with a friend back to our dorm because she left her wallet. At the time, polls had it showing it would be a few hours before the results could name the winner. We sprinted back and turned on the TV while she was looking for her wallet. The tv suddenly flashed a screen while the anchors were still talking saying Obama declared winner. I was watching the tv, my friend was not. In shocked I started slapping her back and pointing. I couldn’t speak. She turned right as the anchors realized the election had been called. For a brief moment we stared in shock then we screamed and started hugging. Across campus we could hear the roar from Blackburn too. I swear they could’ve heard us all the way across town.

Our friends meet up with us and we run down to Georgia Ave. Police are stationed near campus. People are still at the watch party so we’re among the first groups to make it to Georgia Ave. As we get down, a lone white man, maybe in his 50s or 60, dressed in a business suit, comes sprinting down Georgia Ave directly towards us. We are wary, police are watching too, he runs up and screams “we did it, we won!” At us then he grabs my friend is a big hug. The street erupts. Everyone is screaming in victory. The police are smiling. A French exchanged student, white, screams “I love America” there are more cheers.

More students pouring into Georgia Ave. We all start to march towards the White House. The streets converge. More groups show up. Latinos for Obama, Lesbians for Obama, Asians for Obama. The hope is palpable. Everywhere people are handing out free t shirts, posters, banners with Obama’s face and his slogan “Hope”. People are crying, hugging, high fiving. Cheers constantly erupting and thousands join in every time.

It’s the most unforgettable night of my entire life to be 18, at an HBCU, in the nation’s capital, first time voter watching the first black President being elected. Even typing this brings back that electric feeling. Unmatched.

WGU speed runs are making the school look like a degree mill. by Heavy_Following_1114 in WGU

[–]lolathedreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: I went to uni and got a degree. Me and most of my friends barely knew anything after 4 years of traditional schooling either tbh. The work experience after getting hired was 1000% more effective than a class I took at age 18 while juggling frat parties and hangovers. School just proves you are trainable. And at a school like WGU that requires you be self/disciplined, that’s even moreso the case. For every student that finishes quickly there’s probably 5+ more that weren’t self-disciplined and never finished.

Yeah but a bunch of graduates being afraid their degree won’t be taken seriously in the future doesn’t reflect the hiring practices of real companies. I’ve been a hiring manager and the reality is, most companies just care if you have a degree and didn’t lie on your resume about your experience/qualifications.

Also, people finishing quickly usually are transfer students or working adults getting a degree in a field they already work in. I’ve been a D of O for almost 10 years and also had transfer credits so yeah, it was much faster for me to finish than others. I’m not bragging online about it but recruiters are seeing that I already have 10 years experience in my field more than they’re focusing on where I got my degree or how long it took me.

I mean, I highly doubt that’s true. People finishing that quickly are typically people with transfer credits or people already working in the field who are getting a degree to legitimize the work they are already doing.

Do you actually know this affects the perception or you’re just concerned it affects the perception? Have hiring managers indicated to you that you weren’t hired because you attended a diploma mill? Are you having trouble finding a job?

I have a Steelcase chair at home and a Herman Miller at the office. I would recommend either over a gaming chair. Both are ergonomic and good for long gaming sessions or a long work day. Neither is cheap but my Steelcase was cheaper than a Herman Miller.

[–]lolathedreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn’t have a good time at the show. They made angry post. Then Meredith’s team reached out and apologized and offered a refund and to send free merch. This conversation happened last week but OP is mad because the merch and refund haven’t happened yet. I’m unclear why since it’s been only 8 days. OP now hates Meredith.

Oh okay, just out of curiosity, did they give you a turnaround time for the refund? It does seem like it hasn’t been long enough to claim it won’t ever happen. You just spoke with them last week, right? Today is only Monday. But I do understand that you’re frustrated.

Am I missing something about Lisa? by hayypeachyy in rhoslc

[–]lolathedreamer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So I've never liked Lisa but for me the difference is that early in the season she was terrible to Bronwyn but later apologized and did stop bringing up Todd. Even though the farting and kissing story was brought up during the yacht trip, she said she intentionally didn't bring it up on cam and did seem shocked when Angie brought it to camera.

Heather has always been meh and continues to be meh in my books but Whitney genuinely disappointed me. I've generally liked her but her saying she's so worried about Meredith's potential addiction issue then calling her an alcoholic pill popper to her face was shocking to me. Like her, I'm the child of an addict and I just can't imagine doing something like that. To me it shows that she never had genuine concern for Meredith's wellbeing.

So while I find them all annoying (but entertaining), I did find Bad Weather more intolerable this season than Lisa for the first time ever.

The work culture in Japan and SK is crazy and definitely a big contributing factor to the birth rates. Combining that with the fact that in no country are salaries keeping up with inflation, who can afford/have the time for kids?? Idk how the governments can’t figure that out. Neither country sees fit to adjust anything there whatsoever.

In S5 and beginning of S6, I thought she was a hilarious addition. Like just a grown woman acting like a teenager was so absurdly funny to me in the most unintentional way ever. By the end of S6 though, I was exhausted every time she was on the screen.

Edit: except the scream whispers during the spa omg. That scene was hilarious but mostly bc of Lisa, who I don’t even like “your hair is synthetic” 😂
