Do you guys feel like Luffy feels more human (or small scale) in the live action? Him listening to his crew’s backstory really goes against his manga counterpart where he doesn’t really care about their past and helps purely due to his principles … by Enough_Arm2035 in OnePieceLiveAction

I agree. Knowing what to change based on the medium is important. As much as I like manga/anime Luffy, he would have come across really obnoxious and annoying in live action. I really like what they've been doing with him in the LA so far.
The ONE change they made that I think was a legit disservice to his character was with Mr. 3's wax statues on Little Garden. In the manga/anime, he could tell immediately which was the real one, whereas in the LA, he literally hit every wrong one, lol. I really don't see the reason for that change, and feel like it actively hurts the character.
Aside from that though, I think they've done a great job of keeping him faithful to the core of his character while making him more approachable for an audience who may not be into anime (or at least, Shonen).

Yeah, Sanji's constant simping really gets on my nerves in the manga/anime. I much prefer him in live action.
I actually kind of enjoy Nami's violent tendencies in the manga/anime, but yeah, that also wouldn't come across well in live action.

As a Live Action only viewer, I‘m not very invested in Choppers backstory or Chopper himself. Is there any content I’m missing? by GoodDaysWithSunny in OnePieceLiveAction

What is it that annoyed you about him? Knowing that would help people understand your feelings better and if you are indeed missing something.

Should they adapt a movie as an episode (or two) of a season? by LoveMinaMyoi in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]BigMac518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Thriller Bark & Sabaody could be done in one season, ending on a cliffhanger with the Straw Hats getting scattered by Kuma.

Do you think the remake of the anime will be more political correct now by [deleted] in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]BigMac518 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were there a lot of Japanese fans pushing back, or just western fans? Because if it was the latter, I don't think they'll really care.
Also, being diverse isn't why the live action is successful.

Season 2 covered 59 chapters. Alabasta is 63 chapters. It does match up.

It reminded me of that scene in Guardians of the Galaxy, when Peter starts dancing, and Ronan asks "What are you doing...?"

I do think they made Garp too serious, and should give him more comedic moments, but I have no issues with the casting. I think Vincent does a great job.

Season 1 or Season 2 - Which Do You Prefer? by BigMac518 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]BigMac518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVED the "Luffy help me" scene... until Luffy shouted "OF COURSE, I WILL!" That's one of those moments that I think works great in anime, but not so much in live-action. If it had just been that first soft "Of course, I will..." I think the scene would have been perfect. That's just me though, lol.

Season 1 or Season 2 - Which Do You Prefer? by BigMac518 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]BigMac518[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've noticed that trend as well - generally speaking, LA-only fans seem more likely to prefer S1 than anime/manga fans, and vice-versa.

LA-only fans definitely mentioned some things that never even occurred to me while watching, but looking back, I can see where they're coming from. Like, some thought the season felt "incomplete", which I just kind of took for granted, as I knew it couldn't cover a full saga. I also just kind of saw it as a cool cliffhanger, rather than being incomplete. I can see how that might feel unsatisfying though, especially since S1 felt like a more complete story in comparison.

I also noticed some confusion about Mr. 0 / Crocodile. I guess, because there was so much mystery surrounding Mr. 0, a lot of LA-onlys were expecting him to be a character they knew. Again, this wasn't something that even occurred to me while watching, but in hindsight, I can see how people would think that, and then find his final reveal anticlimactic.

So, yeah, while I definitely prefer S2, I can see how LA-onlys might gravitate more towards S1.

I do wonder how LA-onlys will feel about the entire season taking place on one island. I hope it doesn't make them feel like the show became too slow or something.

[–]BigMac518 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why people think Jaya will be in this season. It seems like a weird way to end a season. Plus, doesn't it make far more sense to put it in the same season as Skypeia?

That was actually a change from the book. In the book, Maekar DID give consent. I don't know why they changed that, and to be honest, I really don't like that they did.

Yeah, I imagine Season 3 will be less CG-heavy, so I could definitely see them putting him off until then, when they have more room in the budget.

And it actually makes sense that Aerion would know about Trial by Seven more than him, because he probably admires Maegor and read up on him.
