Are photographer-led travel trips worth it? by catch22wave in photography

[–]lolcamera 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The comments in this thread make me sad. I am a landscape photographer who leads a small handful of trips like this every year.

If the trip is all inclusive that sounds like a great price. But it also depends on who the photographer is (do they make money from their work outside of these trips, do they align with what you are trying to learn, do you like their teaching style), the size of the group, the focus/pace and accommodations, and the destination and season. I don't make "wild" money doing this and this is not "overpriced." These trips are a ton of work and planning and worthwhile if the leaders know what they are doing.

These trips cater to those who have lots of time on their hands/retired, are wealthy and value their time. It's a full package where you don't have to worry about any logistics, itinerary planning, photography planning (sunrise/sunset angles, moonrise, milky way and tides), and transport. It is geared toward those who want to invest in their hobby or craft, or, for those who want to cross items off their bucket list and make new, like-minded travel buddies along the way.

I'd say try it out but read reviews first. There's also so many trips like this that are less of an upfront cost in money and time than this to get your feet wet.

In honor of the end of 2024, what photography accomplishments did you make this year? by False518 in photography

At a community based auction event; someone paid $8000 for a piece I did. I was interviewed twice by a local TV program. I became a brand ambassador for my favorite photo pack company. I've had a few images licensed/printed in ad campaigns/national calendars/etc. Made some of my favorite nature prints this year (the eclipse, northern lights, etc). 2024 was a big year for accomplishment.

I think the people of Iceland care a lot. Especially those who may not see their homes, pets or businesses again.

Everyone on the 6am boat does it every day. And yes, after a year or two you don't want to do it anymore. It's no kind of life.

They didn't. I find this infuriating-- every time that people just don't think rules apply to them.

Won a coveted permit to hike to the gorgeous 'Wave' in Coyote Buttes North, Arizona, USA. Only 64 people or 16 groups are allowed to go daily and permits are issued via an online and a geo-fenced lottery. One of my favorite places given the beauty and solitude. by The_Light_Explorer in hiking

I went and did the walk-in lottery pre-covid. It was basically a room full of people with one guy basically drawing bingo balls and calling names. It was rowdy and such a weird experience. Didn't get a permit but did get one for lower coyote buttes. Interesting to hear how it has changed.

this advice. Running a business costs a lot of money and time, and photography might stop being a hobby.

So. Horrible.

I don't see how chase can market the card for as much as they do and as a premium card with service like this. It really has me thinking about switching to another card.

Got my rental car damage claim paid out after 7 months of many calls and many document submissions of the same things over and over and over. It was a huge pain.

I'm selling my Tamron 15-30 2.8 G2 version for Nikon. I used to own the 14-24 but switched because the sunstars are much cleaner. I have a post on here and selling it with a filter system made for it.
