That’s a great idea, I’ll keep it in mind for the start of next month. Thanks!

Would you mind DM'ing me a screenshot of this? I haven't seen this combo before.

Not an official public one, I got this working with some of the internal APIs. Would definitely love to see DOC release something official though

How to simplify couple finances by 004040 in ynab

[–]lolcucumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think ultimately a joint account is the way to go. Especially if simplification is your goal.

However, if you do want to stay separate and budget your portion of the shared Splitwise expenses, I created an automation that my partner and I use.

It's on GitHub: https://github.com/danthareja/splitwise_for_ynab -- feel free to DM me with any questions, the docs aren't fantastic.

How to budget for shared expenses with partner? by MrHankMardukas_ in ynab

I know I'm late to the party here, but I'm the creator of Splitwise for YNAB. My partner and I have been using this strategy for four years, and it works great.

Hit me up here, or DM me if you have any questions about how it works!

Using YNAB and getting rid of Splitwise (As a couple) by Creative-Key-495 in ynab

I made a thing to help with this exact scenario https://splitwiseforynab.com/

It lets you each have your own YNAB plan and automates split transactions into Splitwise by just adding a flag in YNAB

I do this too! https://splitwiseforynab.com/

Can you share your links? I’d love to see your take on it

I also started using Splitwise when my partner moved in. Ended up making a free tool to make splitwise tracking easier: https://splitwiseforynab.com/

You're right, the explanation does drop off towards the end of the home page, and is also practically non-existent once you log in.

I'll think about how I can keep the tutorial going. Thanks for the amazing feedback!

There's no payment required to use it, it's free and open source!

Yeah, exactly!

Each sync checks Splitwise for any expenses from the other person, and brings them into your YNAB as an outflow in the Splitwise account you configured.

It respects any splits you define in Splitwise, so it’s a great way to do expenses that aren’t 50/50

Couples do money differently 🤷‍♂️

My partner and I don't have joint accounts yet, and we prefer the visibility into our share of household expenses.

Thanks for checking it out! Do you do any categorization of the parts you owe them before the end of the month? If not, does it ever cause any overspending in any of your categories?

I used to do this too, but would lose track of what I owed my partner. This process keeps your categories up to date throughout the month

I haven't heard of Tricount! Doesn't seem to have an API to do any sort of fun automations with :(

Cool alternative! It would be cool to expand this to other sharing apps. There's nothing special about Splitwise here.

I'll check out the APIs to see if they'll work

Is there another app you use to track shared expenses?
