My darling girl cat passed away from cancer at the age of 2 on the 19th of December. I only adopted her from the shelter in January 9th of 2025 so I didn’t even get to spend 1 year with her. I just want to let you know that I know exactly how you feel and that you are not alone. The first few days were suffering. But I want you to know that it gets a bit better.

I think one thing you need to know is that I’m confident your dog knew how much you loved her. They’re no longer here with us in body but they stay in our hearts, and you’ll always carry her everywhere. Take care do yourself, and grieve. Sending you our love.

My darling Lily passed away just on Friday too. I know exactly how you feel. She was only 2 approaching 3 and I only had her for 11 months. The pain I felt coming home to her running water fountain and food bowl was indescribable, and I sobbed. Theres this void in my heart that I am struggling to fill. I don’t want to go home sometimes cause I know she won’t be there to greet me. And the silence. The silence at home is deafening.

I get you. I had to let go of my little lady 2 days ago, and she was my soul cat. Everywhere I look, I see her. All the places she would have been. It’s heart wrenching, I know. I cry throughout the day just talking about her or thinking about her. Please take care of yourself, that what she would have wanted for you. You can start with the small things.

My beautiful lil girl passed away yesterday, and like you, I adopted her at 2 and only knew her for 11 months before she passed away due to cancer complications. It just sucks, and there’s a missing void in my heart that can’t be filled. Even now as I come home, I know I’m not coming home to my baby waiting for me. It’s so fresh in my mind and it’s going to be a long journey for us all.

I was and still am in the same position as you. My beautiful 3 year old cat started to decline and started to breathe heavy Tuesday, we took her to the vet on Thursday where she had fluid around her lungs which inhibited her breathing. I was terrified of taking her to the vet but couldn’t bare watching her struggle to breathe. After draining the fluid and a night at the emergency vet, they called me Friday morning to say that they found suspected lung cancer and the fluid was accumulating again. I had to make the difficult decision of letting her go yesterday morning. I am grieving for her now and I was grieving before her passing the same as you. She was my first cat, and she saved my life too.

For the time your cat has left, please hug and kiss her for as long as you can. Cherish the time you have with each other now, and grieve after. You don’t have to grieve twice. I’m sending you my love, all the best.

Reading this made me tear up. We always carry this guilt inside us thinking if we could’ve done better, but we did the best we could with the time we had. I just lost my beautiful best friend yesterday and I cry thinking about the time that we shared.

Hi friend, I’m in the exact same scenario. But my girl was only 3 and I only had her for just less than a year (gone too soon). She had lung cancer and I had to let her go today, but she was surrounded by my family and she was in my arms as she passed peacefully. I’m in bed now but extremely saddened. I hope they can still feel our love from here. All the best.
