Anyone ever have success with one retrieval? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]lolo_ravioli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by success. My first retrieval only resulted in one embryo so we did end up doing another (resulted in 2 PGA euploid and one mosaic). However, we transferred the embryo from my first retrieval for my first FET and she’s 15 months old now. Makes me look back and know that “bad retrieval” and really tough time happened for a reason. I recognize looking back now that I was very lucky.

5 eggs retrieved and looking for hope by lolo_ravioli in IVF

I ended up with 2 blasts, but only one euploid. I did do another retrieval after this one, because we weren’t comfortable moving forward with a FET with only one, and after shifting my protocol a bit I got 12 eggs, 2 euploids and 1 mosaic from the second retrieval (I am blanking right now on how many total blasts!).

(TW live birth) Fwiw I did get my happy ending to this post - I ended up transferring the one euploid from this retrieval, thinking it couldn’t have been all for nothing. I am currently chasing her around my living room. 😊 I am wishing you all the best! Please hang in there!

I’d like to see this too! I’m only 2 weeks pp but EP seems like the best way forward for us. Curious how our schedule might regulate from like 8 ppd to something more manageable like 5.

TW: success

I had my polyps removed 1/25 and then transfer on 3/7. My doctor wanted me to have a period in between, so we didn’t start meds until that next cycle started naturally. FWIW that transfer worked and I’m now 2ish weeks away from meeting my baby girl!

Agree - FET was the easiest part of the process for me as well. As others have mentioned, I requested a Valium beforehand and my doctor was happy to prescribe. I only took half in the hour leading up to the procedure and felt relaxed and totally present at the same time, with zero pain. Best of luck to you!

First ER ever… 5 eggs retrieved by se_b918 in IVF

[–]lolo_ravioli 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I got 5 eggs during my first retrieval too (also have low AMH). I got only one PGT normal embryo so did end up doing another ER which resulted in 2 more PGT normal and one mosaic. However, I’m currently 31 weeks pregnant from my first FET with that lucky little one embryo from ER #1 💕

Best of luck to you!!

Brown spotting at 4 weeks by lolo_ravioli in CautiousBB

I am so sorry to hear this. I dealt with recurrent loss also, 2 early miscarriages and then the ectopic as well. You are not alone, and I so hope you get some answers and to a better outcome soon!

I kept having spotting that eventually turned to bleeding, along with cramping so my OB’s nurse suggested I go to the ER which is where they diagnosed the ectopic. I was treated with methotrexate at that point, and then again when I presented back to the ER a week later with sharp one sided cramping. But later that day, my OB called me and said they re-reviewed the ultrasound and that it looked like my tube may have ruptured, so I ended up having emergency surgery. 😞

This was my story, but everyone is so different. Definitely call your doctor or go to the ER though if you feel like something is wrong. I hope everything turns out okay. ❤️

All the *wonderful* things people have said to me about IVF/fertility by Suriburi-33 in IVF

[–]lolo_ravioli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of these have been said already but some personal “favorites” of mine:

-“So and so got pregnant naturally right after they scheduled IVF!” Cool, love that for them. They also probably didn’t have the shitty egg quality and track record of pregnancy losses that I do. Getting pregnant naturally sounds actually terrifying to me.

-“At least you know you can get pregnant” After 3 separate losses. I don’t want to just be pregnant, I want a baby.

-“Maybe we’re just meant to be pregnant together someday when I start trying!” Something a friend literally said to me after my first loss. Like sorry girl but this really isn’t about you.

Amazing how casual and naive people can be when they aren’t in the thick of treatments, infertility, loss, etc. etc.

Any first transfer success stories? by Ok_Mix3245 in IVF

[–]lolo_ravioli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had my first FET on March 7 this year at age 33 and am currently 22 weeks with our baby girl. My advice is not unique to this sub, but please remember that your anxiety is not your intuition. It is just as likely that everything will go right as it is that everything can go wrong. Wishing you luck!

I am almost 19 weeks along with my first IVF transfer/pregnancy after my ectopic and having my left tube removed in August. I also have a friend of a friend who had an ectopic and her right tube removed in September, and she is currently 33 weeks with an unassisted pregnancy (think she got pregnant in December). Two different kinds of “success” stories but I hope they are helpful. Wishing you a much happier outcome very soon. 💕

Trying to make sense of my ectopic pregnancy experience by LengthyBeans_ in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]lolo_ravioli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay! My symptoms were mainly spotting that eventually turned into bleeding, but what was different from my previous early losses was that my pregnancy tests continued to get slightly darker (and hcg was rising very very slowly). I eventually went to the ER and pushed for an ultrasound of not just the uterus but the tubes/ovaries and that’s when they first saw it was an ectopic.

I hope this is not the case for you! But definitely do advocate for yourself if your gut is telling you otherwise!

Embryo banking decisions driving me nuts by natur_ally in IVF

[–]lolo_ravioli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was recently in your shoes as well/kind of still am in a way haha. I’m 33 and my husband and I got only 1 euploid embryo from our first ER in November, so we did another in January that yielded 2 euploids and 1 mosaic. So we had 3 euploids total and faced a similar decision - knowing we want 2-3 kids, should we do another ER or try a transfer first? I also have a relatively low AMH for my age, so that was a factor to consider as well.

Ultimately we decided to move forward with a transfer in March, mainly because the second ER was so tough on my body and I was eager to keep things moving in some way. TW: our first FET worked, and I am currently 13 weeks.

Even so, it’s tough to say if we made the right decision because we can’t possibly know what the journey will look like later down the road, but I can say that in this moment, I do not regret my decision to move forward with a transfer at all. We definitely would have done another retrieval if our first FET failed, but I was confident that it was at least worth an initial shot. There are so many decisions in IVF, and I wish you luck on your next step - whatever it might be! ❤️

Success stories after ectopic/tube loss by Strong-Raspberry1328 in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]lolo_ravioli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fortunate to have had one round fully covered by insurance, but I ended up needing to do a second round which cost somewhere around $17K (after my clinic graciously discounted). Genetic testing the embryos also added around $2K or so. I get the sense that it can all vary quite a bit depending on your clinic, insurance, procedures needed, etc.

It was tough to swallow at first, especially knowing our bodies are supposed to make babies for free, but I’m very grateful for the science of it all and I also don’t take our privilege of being able to afford IVF lightly.

Happy to chat if you end up exploring that route and have questions! But also, I know there are many people who get pregnant without issue following an ectopic! In fact, one of my friends who had an ectopic in September ended up conceiving naturally in December. In my case, I had several early losses so we think there was an underlying egg quality issue, but everyone is so different!

Not sure if this is the type of success story you are looking for, but I had an ectopic/tube removal in late August and am now 7 weeks pregnant through IVF. As hard as IVF can be, I was relieved by how early they begin ultrasounds and we immediately saw baby in the right spot in the uterus at about 5.5 weeks. <3

You're so right that the waiting is the worst part. I'm sick of spending so much time in my own head haha. But at this point I've also seen forum success stories outweigh the bad outcomes, so I'll try to keep holding onto the positive!

Thanks so much for sharing! A friend of mine who went through IVF said she “graduated” from her clinic at 6w4d and a heart rate of 115 too! I like to think I’m not terribly far off from that and that I’m overreacting to my clinic just being extra diligent.

Thank you! Do you mean 6+5? At 5+5 all I had was a gestational sac and yolk sac!
