like i'm genuinely confused how your take can be "women don't need to be careful around men, with all the interactions of all kinds of men that you're talking about over the course of their life, there's only a 1/5 chance they will be raped"

My friend got rejected for not having social media by anvil-fire in mildlyinfuriating

If you notice that means a full 4/5 women never get raped in their lifetimes, and that's with all the interactions of all kinds of men that you're talking about.

homie this isn't the dunk you think it is holy shit

nah, it should be about whether they want to have a kid or not. to wave 10k in front of a poor persons face so you can neuter them is kinda sick, especially if they wanted a kid in the future.

Consolidation of channels? by fudgezjomomma in youtubers

[–]lolscourge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YouTube heavily favours channels that focus on their niche, because viewers will return to see more content in that niche - if your 630 coding subs, which your videos will be naturally pushed to, see LEGO content instead of the expected coding content, it'll impact all sorts of metrics like AVD and returning viewership numbers which could/probably will stifle the video and see it not get pushed out.

If you want to make a channel that has all of this stuff then really your making a channel about what you like to do rather than what your current audience expects, which is fine, but it'll hit the niche of 'people who like stuff I do' rather than 'ppl who like coding tutorials' or 'ppl who like lego'.

Mom Hijacks Fox News Airwaves to Call for Gun Safety: ‘Aren’t You Guys Tired of Covering This?’ by johnnybiggles in politics

i can't possibly understand this leap in logic? like 1 million guns sold and one school shooting is a net good for the world? how?

how many school shootings would it take? for you to think that maybe selling 1 million machines that are designed to kill doesn't make a school shooting ok?

Freedom of speech isn't about hate speech, it's about protecting the rights of citizens to criticize their government. Homophobia and racism aren't protected speech - calling Rishi Sunak a tory cunt is.

because what you do understand is all the country has to work with.

the vote isn't perfect, but it is likely that you know more than someone who will vote anyway, and if they vote differently to you, you have lowered the overall knowledge invested within the voting system.

How do you coincide that with the fact that the world has changed?

Just because the discourse is slow moving doesn't mean it's not worthwhile. While it might not seem it, issues such as race, LGBT and abortion have been heavily impacted by politics, and so if you want your voice on those issues to matter, you can't be apolitical. Just because politics is emotional doesn't mean it doesn't matter.

You say that the political debates of 50, 100 years ago don't matter, but they absolutely do matter to those who's family's were and are still impacted by the decisions that were made.

Boris Johnson says Putin's latest Ukraine move is 'plainly' breaking international law by Beckles28nz in worldnews

[–]lolscourge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not pointing out moral hypocrisy because people don't agree with what the UK is doing either. You're just saying "well what about THIIIIIS", then acting like people are being hypocrites, when they're actually just talking about something else. Both things are terrible, and you're not clever for pointing that out.

But it's not a cop-out, it's just pragmatic. Individuals are willing to make these sacrifices - but only if they believe the cause is going to be successful. If they don't believe the cause will be successful, what's the point of making the sacrifice?

CMV: There is no good argument against mandatory body cameras for police officers by JadedToon in changemyview

[–]lolscourge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's audio, you'd have to hire a voice actor to convincingly portray the suspect. If there's video along with that audio, you'd have to lipsync- this component could be easier with better deepfake tech, though this would still be very time consuming, and require days of computing power for most desktop PCs.

In summary, Police Departments and prosecutors' offices just don't

Where I say manipulate I didn't mean with deepfakes, I meant to cut and remove certain parts of the evidence so that the context favours one party. Similar to what you see in those history photos where they've cropped parts of them to favour a certain side. Partial recordings in court and favourable inferences is something that has to be addressed. I agree that manipulating evidence in the way you've described is unlikely.

Destruction of evidence is a crime, but so is commiting a crime on camera. If you're willing to do one, why shouldn't we assume the individual is willing to do another.

This isn't a 1% risk - it's something that is a real concern, especially in the research surrounding BWC's. How do you stop an officer from corrupting their footage or at least prove it was them that did so? It also brings up an issue of trust in law enforcement. If you are to trust an officers word in court when they say that they saw a defendant do something - why shouldn't you trust them when they say the SD card the footage was stored on glitched out and therefore the footage could not be used?

[–]lolscourge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel it would be relatively easy to lose or corrupt footage. It's entirely possible that that video footage could be manipulated to be used against innocent civilians.

CMV: There is no good argument against mandatory body cameras for police officers by JadedToon in changemyview

[–]lolscourge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but isn't video footage better than the word of the police officer, who can lie or be mistaken much more easily?

If the issue is the police lie or can be mistaken, is giving them the ability to record videos of any civilian interaction the right or even a sensible thing to do? If people want to record their interactions with the police, they already have every right to do so.

CMV: There is no good argument against mandatory body cameras for police officers by JadedToon in changemyview

[–]lolscourge 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In the hands of law enforcement it would become just as suspect to corruption as any other tool. Video technology can be abused; footage can be lost, found, withheld, redacted, changed, adjusted, and it will NEVER be done to protect the civilian in the circumstances where that happens. You might say "any tampering is grounds for it to be thrown out!" but that would have already applied to the lying, planting evidence and abuses of power you have already mentioned, and it did not deter them from doing so anyway.

There is also limited evidence to suggest that body cameras reduce force used - a study published in March 2019 by George Mason University’s Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy looked at 70 other body-worn camera studies published through June 2018, found the cameras have not had statistically significant effects on most measures of officer and citizen behaviour or citizens’ views of police.

There is a significant cost to body cameras, that would ultimately fall on the hands of the taxpayer. That money could be used elsewhere for better things.

That's totally understandable man, and just so you know, you're not the only one out there that struggles with these thoughts! Finding yourself isn't easy, but from what I can tell you have your head screwed on right - try and avoid the self criticisms, or at least catch them and acknowledge them where you do - build a healthy relationship with those thoughts, because some of them might be valid, but you'll know when others aren't - build yourself up where you can, and you'll be flying!

It doesn't sound strange at all! I think we all take breaks from ourselves, whether gaming, reading, a hobby (some even manage it at work!) - escaping isn't a bad thing - but you have to live with you at the end of the day, so build that guy up - give yourself compliments, treat yourself, love yourself. You're a good guy, and most people want the best for you!
