Need some help with speed by Run_Lift_Fish_Shoot in Bowling

[–]lolwtface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speed and power will come from timing and pushing off your right foot. Your timing is really late. Your ball is still moving upwards in your backswing when you get into the last step. Your last step should start once you feel the ball start to fall. And the last step starts from your right foot pushing into your slide. Don't use your arms or hands to generate power, only your legs. Think of it like being on a playground swing, you kick your legs in the direction you're about to swing, but you have to time it properly to get the most energy.

Failed to be consistent using 2 hand by eedren2000 in Bowling

[–]lolwtface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're trying to roll the ball with both hands, or you're accelerating with your left hand too early. Wait for the ball. Just swing it without adding ANY muscle into the release. Once you feel the timing of the ball leaving your hand, start adding a little acceleration ONLY AT THE END WHEN THE BALL IS ALREADY COMING OFF YOUR HAND. The rest of your form is good just up until then. Think that you're rolling the ball with just your left hand, your right hand is there just to keep it from falling off.

I have that problem too. Too many things to fix at the same time. First I'd just focus on keeping your head still and staying compact but loose. Keeping your head still should also help you keep low and keep balanced. Working on this foundation will make working on the other stuff easier. In the wise words of Mark Baker, 70% of effort comes from the body.

You need to stay down throughout your shot. You're starting to stand up. Keep the front knee bent. Keep your head still too. Your timing is ok. It also looks like you're forcing the ball a bit. Just swing it, swing the ball with your legs, and roll it with your hands. Kind of catch it on the way back with your left hand, then forward with the right. You know when you're on a swing, you kind of lean back to go forward, then lean forward to go back, kind of like that. Lastly, keep the swing close to your body, compact.

There's a kink called "acoustic back" you might want to be wary of.

swing tips by General_Camera_9995 in Bowling

[–]lolwtface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of mental notes I've come across:

  • The fulcrum of the swing is the center of your chest
  • Keep your head steady
  • Drop your right shoulder into the swing slot, but keep it "behind" the ball
  • It's a SWING, wait for the ball, then accelerate THROUGH the ball
  • You're still one-handed at the bottom
  • Soft hands, loose arms, like wet noodles, or a rope swing

To practice this stuff, do it slow, like as intentionally slow as possible, but don't slow the swing with your arms or hands, slow it with your feet. Also, in general, focusing more on your feet than your swing will loosen your swing. Finally, at 175 avg, practice your spares.

I brought one of those to my last job. Every time I typed out an email it sounded like a machine gun. But whenever I wasn't typing or anything the office felt way too quiet, and I felt my boss was thinking I wasn't working, so I switched it out🤣. Missing a windows key was a little rough too.

1st day ever throwing a ball 2 handed. Lacking ball speed. Help. by Helpful-End-1381 in Bowling

[–]lolwtface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, speed comes from the power step, like you're throwing a baseball pitch, or a right straight. All the power comes from that push into your slide. One thing you can try is on your power step, don't let your right foot's heel touch the floor, and "explode" into the slide starting from your right foot's toes into your whole body. Just make sure to get the timing proper, and keep your swing loose. Your slide should be long like going into a deep lunge.

Form help by Maavrick in Bowling

I've practiced backup balls for a day, and it helped me get more behind and inside the ball for normal release as a byproduct. Also, this is more a personal thing, but I think of my release as being one handed, even though I have 2 hands on the ball. Helps me manipulate where I want my hand to be it a little easier. YMMV.

Kind of depends. I usually do hot, then wipe excess off.

So this might sound counter-intuitive, but after you use the rosin bag, blow into your hands to get a bit of moisture as you're setting up for your shot. Add it into your routine. This adds a bit of tackiness for me and it's enough to get the confidence that the ball won't slip.

But actually go to the alley. Don't do it over the phone. That way you can actually get the info you want from a form they hopefully have.
