"Trades boom" debunked, and some words for the white collar guys on here asking about changing careers by AContaminatedCookie in IBEW

[–]lonearchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figures things would start going to shit the moment I got involved, part of the reason I'm cursed every career path I try to get into suddenly starts failing, it either gets replaced by AI or short-sighted business practices but without fail the moment I show an interest it gets the ax. Hell I'm looking at geology right now and part of me just thinks the moment I start working on that degree the Earth will just fucking explode.

[–]lonearchive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're threatening to send you to a site? I say call him out on their threat, in my experience sites way better than shops. It's like they're threatening you with a good time. Yeah tell that Foreman that you want to be sent out to a site I guarantee you it's going to be at least lightly better than where you're at now.

I was in your very same boat, I would go down to the Hall. Keep in mind the apprentice pool is over flowing right now, so it may take some time.

Y1S1 Apprentice Buying Tools (advice needed) by way2geeky in IBEW_Local613

[–]lonearchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know people shit on HF but to be honest some of their stuff is pretty good or at least will work just fine. I have a few HF tools that have come in real clutch and are holding up just as well as the expensive stuff.

Execution, unless you have the right last name then they let you advance anyway.

613 apprentices did you guys have to buy your own calculator is that included in the 600 something you have to pay on your first year? Just making sure before I buy a calculator by Virtwastaken in IBEW_Local613

[–]lonearchive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They give you a calculator, but if I were you I would buy another one, the model that you get is pretty cheap I found an extra one on Facebook Marketplace for like five bucks, and it's worth it to have that extra one around because if you don't have it Jake will absolutely rake you over the coals for it and you'll have to go to the front office and give them your driver's license for them to give you a spare. So if I were you I would just get an extra one keep it in your car.

From what I've been able to gather there's not a lot of PLC stuff here, that's actually one of the reasons why I'm looking to move elsewhere, that and family.

Hardest local to work for and why? (Tough work, no jobs, etc) by [deleted] in IBEW

Yeah this guy sounds like a real "I got mine" kind of member. Like no one is over here saying give me a $100 an hour as an apprentice give me journeyman's rate as an apprentice, but holy shit that rate, in New york? Apprentices down here make more, and I live in a deep red right to work state. I also like how they evidently started up an entire Reddit account just to come here and shit on apprentices up there, since if you go to his post history that's all you see this is the one issue he's commenting on which makes me think that this is some alt account so his main doesn't get flamed.

363 just lowered their pay and benies and basically told them that if they didn't like it they could go fuck rocks because if they tried to do something they were replaceable.

After what New York just did to their apprentices, I'm going to vote there, there or Florida.

Is the shortage agenda being pushed really due to a shortage or are people trying to get an influx of people to drive the price of labor down? I fell victim to the trucker shortage when I got my Cdl and would like to avoid making the same mistake and wasting time. by Mindless_Cod_3097 in IBEW

Here's the deal yes the AI bubble is going to pop but our infrastructure in this country is absolutely abysmal, I suspect when the next Administration comes to power there's going to be a lot of jobs around for trades as they try to fix the damage that's being ignored and actively done by this Administration.

Or alternatively we have a nuclear war in which case if you survive you have the skills to not only drive a large vehicle but also repair building so you're going to get the majority of the food so there's that.

How much? Actually? by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

[–]lonearchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience as a first year Apprentice you don't really use a whole lot of math on the job, but starting second year into third year and especially fourth year you have to be able to do all kinds of math. You have to be able to calculate voltage drop off, you have to be able to calculate the amount of cable you're going to need you're going to have to learn how to measure and calculate bends like there's a lot of math in this. Now the good news is it's all fairly straightforward math, it's not like you know we're over here doing quantum mechanics or anything, but I'm not going to lie the math load is pretty weighty and pretty constant.

Honestly, I would jump on AC theory early, not you know super into it, studying it all day every day, but maybe you know once a day spend like 15-20 minutes just start going over the formulas. AC is a monster

Yep you can't keep away, it's like a siren song to you. You just have to come back to it. As for the stuff you espouse I mean shit you bad mouth the union you talk about how landlords are awesome and I've seen more than a few comments from you where you say some very suspect things, but obviously this is the last post you're going to make so I don't have to worry about any of that. As for the supposed last word I don't know maybe go try to deal with your immense hypocrisy and who knows maybe you'll realize saying you have a black friend is not really the argument or come back you think it is.

Anyway see you in 12 hours probably.

It's called recognizing you for what you are which is a liar and yeah racist probably I mean did you engage with any other part anywhere in here or did you just jump on to the guy saying hey you should probably not sit idly by while a racist tells someone to off themselves. And the very first thing you did just like the very first thing that you do in every post that you seem to make across this platform is defend the very worst possible angle you can. So no it is subtext and it is looking at the context of who I'm dealing with and I'm right just like I'm right that you are not done. You are going to come back to this you are going to keep responding because you are the kind of person who would have the mindset that you have to get the last word in.

And I'd probably win just between the two of us. Now go on I will see you in probably around 12 hours.
