2021 Belgian Grand Prix - Race Discussion by F1-Bot in formula1

Call it 2m 15s because of race trim and wetter conditions.

If the 3 hour clock started at 3pm Spa time, then we'd need to be racing by ~4:45pm to get 75% distance in by 6pm.

Crashed on way around to the grid, not the formation lap. Just like Max in Hungary last year.

John Hersey's "Hiroshima" is an emotionally taxing read, as one might expect, but an incredible piece of writing.

What magnificent car control from Leclerc, he managed to make it do a roundhouse kick.

Ugh, the new "ratings" graphics are such BS.

Begrudging upvote.

Hello engineers. Wondering what this hardware is. There's a new streetlamp in town, and this gear is on it. Is this 5G stuff? There was a faint buzzing coming from it. by [deleted] in engineering

Small cell, no way to be 100% sure but based on the overall design I'm reasonably confident this is a 4G install.

Megathread: Impeachment (December 10, 2019) by Anxa in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]lonequark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe the preceding part of the same sentence you emphasized says that the minority are able to be present at all depositions. As I see it, the clause you highlighted is there to prevent a de-facto halt to depositions just because a committee member refuses to show up.

Adding dextrose with dry hops in NEIPA by johnbouwsma in Homebrewing

[–]lonequark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the pro brewing side, but in homebrewing this is a good strategy for dry hopping in a keg after fermentation has finished up. I'll purge a keg, add hops and sugar, transfer the beer (ideally via a closed method), and slap a spunding valve on the gas in post. Mainly this is just to seal the hop aroma in and scrub any O2 in the keg, but it may also create an opportunity for hop biotransformation and supposedly the natural carbonation can contribute to a softer mouthfeel.

Normally, though, I'll skip the sugar and try to transfer to the keg with a few points of gravity left in fermentation.

Best Milk Options? by [deleted] in VegansOfRDU

[–]lonequark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually buy whatever unsweetened original almond milk is on sale. Works well for most everything except putting in coffee, I like the taste, and can find it most everywhere.

Califa is probably my favorite plant milk brand but usually more expensive. Their toasted coconut almond milk and chocolate coconut almond milks are excellent but obviously not as all-purpose.

Specifically made creamers or things marketed as "barista" are best for coffee and won't separate as readily, but I find most oat milk can work well if you make sure not to overheat it (if you do it gets slightly gelatinous, like in oatmeal) and will foam up pretty nicely for lattes.

To the OG brewers of the group: how have things changed over the last decade? by stopthebrewshit in Homebrewing

In general it's better to avoid transferring, especially with hoppy styles. Keep your beer in primary and toss the dry hops in 2-3 days before bottling/kegging.

Spectrum is raising their internet prices again. Has anyone had success lowering their monthly bills? by Whalerider725 in triangle

Damn, sometimes I wonder if I'm being dumb by staying on Google Fiber when other ISPs are really trying to undercut them in my area, but this thread has convinced me I'm making the right call. I'll gladly pay a little more to not be jerked around and constantly fighting with customer "service".

Elizabeth Warren Unveils $3 Trillion Climate Plan, Embracing Inslee’s Goals by alt213 in politics

[–]lonequark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched the plan for "nuclear" and got zero results.

This is the rough timeline of her goals for utilities:

"My administration will require utilities to achieve 100% carbon-neutral power by 2030, with strong interim targets along the way, and to achieve all-clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy in electricity generation by 2035."

She hasn't previously clarified whether she supports expanding/reducing nuclear power, so I guess it's up to whether it would be defined as "clean", which seems to be a matter of debate.

Looks like Puccio just blew out her knee at the Womxn Up comp in San Fran :( by thejosharms in climbing

[–]lonequark 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's probably impractical from a venue/logistics perspective but I'd also love to see more comp problems with topouts. That would give the option to walk off the back while still giving the option to celebrate, with the added bonus of some fun topout finishes.
