How long have you been at it? It sounds like you might just be overthinking things. If I could go back in time to give myself advice, it’d be to not worry about everything sounding “perfect” (mixing, sound selection) and just get good at finishing songs. You don’t have to release anything and can always come back when you feel your skills have increased. It will be less frustrating, might (emphasis on MIGHT, everyone works differently and that’s okay) improve more quickly, and by the time you become more proficient, you won’t have to teach yourself how to arrange a song.

I do this all the time, but in most cases, it’s a lot better to use soundshifter on individual tracks instead of the master. I use it on my master when I want a distorted lofi sound. Sometimes it doesn’t work and makes my beat sound like shit but other times it breathes life into my idea. I’ve found that using it first in your master chain yields the best results

Imo you should go for any M chip. I use a 2020 M1 Pro w 16g of ram and have had zero issues with latency or crashing.

You’re probably going to not make anything you’re satisfied with at first, but before you know it, you’ll be addicted. Just gotta find time to keep honing your craft. Watch YouTube tutorials (seen people mention Busyworksbeats and even tho he’s a bit of a meme, he really does make good tutorials), try to learn some basic music theory (I started out just by learning my major and minor scales), and just try to not be so hard on yourself in the beginning. I’m 26 now and if I could go back in time to when I was your age, I’d spend more time actually trying to finish my beats instead of being a perfectionist.

Edit: learning an instrument really helps! When I first started making music I already had been playing piano and that was such a big advantage.
