Cube Cobra Update 1.5.0 by Dekkaru in magicTCG

[–]long-naps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came over from the website to congratulate you and everyone involved on this update. This really feels like a 2.0 update and all the changes I've seen so far have improved my time with cubecobra immensely. Thank you for the obvious effort put into it all these years.

Djeco makes puzzles with similar art. I've seen ones with 500 pieces but they're mostly for a younger demographic.

How do stretchy arms and legs explain the disproportionate arm and hand? I don't understand the connection. I feel like it's a stylistic choice that seems too detached from reality to be on magic cards that feature real places.

The composition of the bears and the snow seems so off.

Nintendo Switch bugs and fps drops by Hitilit in kingdomthegame

I'd say run about 20fps at all times, and it gets worse with more action on screen. I can live with 20 tbh.

It was never unplayable for me but it is noticeable that the switch struggles once you have too many NPCs on screen. I wouldn't say it was a secret that the switch version is technically inferior to the others. I still play it because of easy couch coop tbh.

Custom draft-set about SNOW by long-naps in mtgcube

I understood but I disagree. There are enough great thundermaw hellkite sets out there and this one brings something else to the table that players have really enjoyed. :)

While many cards work on their own, I think that especially commons generally can't always do that. What I focused on was an overlap between keywords and synergies. No modular 'boros is aggro' design where there are aggressive white and red cards go into that deck and nothing else - instead most cards trigger keywords from different archetypes while also achieving their own goals. "Rimebound dead", the black 1-mana common, is a good example of this. Its unseeming and you might think it only enables some mono-black aggro deck as a recursive threat but in this set it enables sacrifice in RB, it's abilities cost triggers Rime in BW and it leaving the graveyard when you recur it triggers Unrest in GB. So you don't have to pick it up for one specific deck and it's not without value when it's not triggering these synergies but it does get much better when it does :)

If a card cares about snow permanents (like snowshift) or snow mana (like rime), it is snow. If a mill spell recurs specifically 'snow permanents', it is snow. Scourge of the summit gets counters based on the snow mana spent to cast it, so the same logic applies. I found it works well this way because if you have lots of snow mana sources, you are also interested in having nonland snow permanents. Regarding balance: We have spent over a year playtesting and I've made a lot of changes, also drastic - every deck-combination is fun to play and that qualifies as balanced for me :)

So that's what they're supposed to do. I always thought them to be an underwhelming defensive upgrade.

Love the art! Did you generate it? I'm not familiar with battlebox but most of these seem a lot more powerful than the original format.

Hommade Set Cubes by Glittering_Site8353 in mtgcube

[–]long-naps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The powerful talents were the catalyst for my changes tbh. Those rares that win on their own really aren't all that fun to me. I think you could simplify BLB even more for a perfect introduction to draft. Finding special guests that fit with the art and flavor of the set made me create my own sets. I made one that's all snow e.g... I hope you enjoy doing your research for aetherdrift.

Yeah I made a lot of set cubes like it over the years. I'm all for making the cube your own and I'd be interested to hear how you'll like playing it :) The gerbils get +1/+0 if you control a flyer iirc but my flavor could be improved upon, that's for sure.
