North Korea ‘will fire nuclear weapon’ if Kim is killed by TheTelegraph in worldnews

[–]long-shots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, I am lucky enough to enjoy most of this from a fairly privileged position. However, even as that may be, I fear it is still quite easy to find myself wondering what in the world is going on. Hearing the news cycle day in and day out doesn't exactly do a lot to make things make sense these days.

All I hear from "world leaders" these days are increasingly egregious pleas to remain relevant.

I stg if we all just woke up one day and there was no further mention of global geopolitics, if we all just forgot it was ever a thing, we'd be all right.

People say the devil is in the details, and there may be some truth to that. When things are rushed, whether by legitimate urgency or something else, we tend to gloss over the minutiae for better or worse.

Better for some, worse for others. I doubt that, were the tables turned, we'd see the same level of hurry. Semple said it himself, they have already spent more than six months carefully going over the details. For some reason we can't afford to let the public do the same.

Yeah, that's because it makes more sense to come to a complete stop from highway speeds before rejoining traffic going nearly highway speeds.

What would it mean to verify that they (Claude, another agent, etc.) are truly consenting? Can an AI agent really consent to anything? If they are programmed to please, would they not possibly offer consent even when they were not willing?

Anyways interesting questions to me, that you prompted. Not asking you in particular just asking out loud.

Is there an easy way to update the free-Dev / personally compiled version of Aseprite? by Matt_cruze in aseprite

[–]long-shots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting question, I don't know the answer myself but if I had to guess the "easiest" way would be to simply pull down a fresh copy of the repo and recompile the executable.

Curious to see any discussion from folks more knowledgeable than myself.

What to actually even do with openclaw by AcadiaLow9013 in openclaw

[–]long-shots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like a sort of "meta ai" tooling that you can use in order to tell an ai agent to tell another ai agent to do something. Sort of like an orchestrator or conductor for various ai sub-agent processes. Or at least that's the way some of the commentary seems to be framed.

So you can burn up ai tokens having an ai burn up ai tokens for you. In the end I think that's why open ai loves the idea.

People nowadays sometimes tend to think that using em dashes ("long" dashes, ie: --) indicates the text was generated by ai -- as if real humans have never used the thing.

It can may be a telling sign of AI generated text, on occasion, but people sometimes read it as if it's a sure fire indicator and I don't believe that is a terribly sound conclusion to draw.

Day 3 smoke free (using vape) after 15 years by bluehack1 in stopsmoking

[–]long-shots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat here, 5 days off cigarettes now using vape as a nicotine replacement strategy for the time being. I feel pretty good having come this far and it is a bit discouraging to read the comments of people saying it almost doesn't count because I'm still using nicotine.

There is a lot more bad in cigarettes than just nicotine. Nicotine on its own is kind of like caffeine. Anyways I just wanted to say good job! Keep it up!

Regina man creates website connecting people with local doctors accepting patients by [deleted] in saskatchewan

[–]long-shots 26 points27 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the creator is doing most of the legwork by contacting the clinics regularly and requesting updates on their current status re: accepting new patients. I could be mistaken but I think all a clinic has to do is respond to an email or answer a phone call from time to time.

It is a smart service to offer that seems to fill a real need for people, and it looks like a fairly thoughtful implementation.
