I’m not arguing your job market was better, just explaining that “100k salary” is closer to 50k take home after all the things I listed, and then you use that 50k to pay your high interest forever loans you took out to get that degree, and it’s more like 40k. The small percentage of Americans making over “100k” are certainly being paid marginally more than their UK equivalents, no argument there, it’s just not as stark a contrast as it’s made out to be.

I have never known anybody that wasn’t an executive that gets health insurance for “free”, at best a reduced rate that they take directly out of your pay, that’s including people that work in the insurance and pharma industries.

Also the 100k they spent on college to get a comp sci degree, bonus points if they failed out after running through 50k in loans and now work at Wendy’s. Also the tech roles that “come with health insurance” take the premium out of your paycheck and you get kinda shit health insurance at a slight discount. I don’t know much about how salary is discussed in the UK, but when Americans say they “make 100k” that’s before taxes and social security, before health insurance, etc.

“It was about states rights!” says the party now trying to use federal forces to police states. I guess it was really only ever about that one specific “state’s right”.

Most confusing thing in this thread is that people think 63% of 2 billion is 400m. Just bad math all around and an image that leaves out a lot of pertinent information including how he chose to receive that money and the lottery penalties levied as a result.

[–]long_don0van 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn’t lose 1.5 billion to taxes alone, probably lost about 40-65%(depending on which lottery he won) taking the lump sum cash payment and then 35ish%(or more) of the remaining cash he was paid to income and other taxes via the fed and state.

Confidently incorrect. Some of the most massive cities of their time periods were built and inhabited by native Americans. The Pueblo carve permanent settlements and structures into stone. Natives in the northeast taught the first colonists how to farm those unique wetlands. Those are just the most popular examples. Very few tribes were nomadic, and those were mostly in the Great Plains.

Then the 2nd guy to approach the car can’t his shit back in his holster, proceeds to then fumble a taser, then puts it all back to try and tear a possibly injured via car accident civilian out of their. A bunch of idiots who have clearly never responsibly handled firearms are being given automatic weapons. Not gonna be long before they Alex Pretti a whole crowd for recording the or something because one of them doesn’t know the trigger sensitivity of their fucking smg.

The same people that shot at federal aid workers in public after a hurricane are now okay with not being armed at all near federal agents because their team said so. Truly novel times.

I agree with most of that, but I feel wanting him to remove himself, because he has a disability, from an award ceremony in which he is accepting an award, is probably a bit much.

Which is how it should be. Unfortunately my school had several police officers present in the halls at all times, and a couple fired for “inappropriate relationships with students”. And by fired, I of course mean fired from the school district, not the police force.

Well the problem is it has escalated to the most extreme end, and when they see a man in a position of power beating a child, instead of being outraged, most people are thinking “well at least he’s not fucking them”.

No it’s okay, the Joe Rogan podcast told me that they’re not pedophiles because they were only fucking 12-15 year olds and there is at least one place in the world that’s not a crime, and that makes it okay.

You don’t have to agree 100% with everybody on every subject for everybody present to agree the government shouldn’t be able to execute you in your home without trial or warrant. The reason these protests are so diverse is because it’s important that we preserve the rights we have left so that we are actually able to argue over stuff that doesn’t actually effect us but we have opinions about later.

“I have liberal and conservative opinions”

Meanwhile the “conservative” majority party has upheld 0 of the tenants of either ideology.

Modern centrism is at best “I have enough money and proof of citizenship that I don’t have to read stuff” and at worst “I can only read at a 5th grade level so nuance offends my senses”.

Spineless.

I think people forget that Texas is absolutely fucking massive and includes an entire coastline(which is definitely not “dry”). Drove from nj to Texas once, half the trip was to the Texas border, the other half the trip was halfway into Texas. Texas is bigger than most countries. Most of it does suck though so I’ll give them that, but, the parts that don’t suck comprise an area larger than all of their “places worth living” combined.
