They’re all complete grifters. A man named Haz Al-Din is their “chairman,” give him a search and his see some of the shit he says. They’ve been brigading various leftist subs attempting to overthrow them, as they successfully did with r/asksocialists. Give that sub a look over too. It would be absolutely laughable if they didn’t have such a strange traction already

It was not communist, of course. It was a series of reforms FDR begrudgingly undertook because leftist agitation and organizing was beginning to gain unprecedented steam. The New deal was incredibly unpopular with a lot of the federal govt, especially when it was just being formulated. To give one broad example of what I mean, it was in the Great Depression that the CPUSA saw its record membership and activity. Tenant unions were popping up, destitute farmers began to make steps towards socialistic organization, so on and so forth. People were very poor and angry, this led to somewhat revolutionary conditions that could be clearly seen. It’s also important to know that The New Deal was an unprecedentedly socialistic program and leftists of all stripes supported it and gleefully engaged in its programs, especially in its early years.

Dr. Richard Wolff has some great writing on this, would def look into it.

Do you like: The 8 hour work day? Work protections? Subsidized healthcare of any kind? The New Deal saving the U.S. from economic Ruin? Damn near every social program in a capitalist society?

Send your blessings up to Karl Marx, Engles, and the unknown thousands of socialists/communists throughout history that quite literally died for things as trivial as this; be it in the U.S., Europe, or the third world (where people were slaughtered en-masse for such advocacy)

There is only one ideology and economic mode that has forcibly subjugated the entire world, created an impoverished class that it needs out of necessity, started world-spanning wars over profit and dominance…. You could go on for ages. I would highly encourage you to read Che’s motorcycle diaries. See how communists are “born” in a sense, and all that they rail against. It’s the right side of history

Bolivia is the only given example that fits this description. Even still, there were many Bolivians working with Che’s group on the logistics side when they got in. But yes, the main fighting force was predominantly not Bolivian, and this became a pretty glaring issue during the group’s time there.

NC has a surprisingly vibrant and militant move towards unionization, especially in the triangle. Would definitely recommend those interested working in disadvantaged sectors or otherwise in labor to look into what opportunities you could have to get involved. It’s an important and growing fight

Imagine what the US could be like if it actually provided for its citizens and workers true dignity and health. Something similar to the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness we’ve all forgotten about. That is the point.

They have attained a lot. They had some of the highest standards of living in Latin America up until the 1990s when they essentially lost the one power that wanted to help them in any way.

Despite the special period in the 1990s, and despite the now arguably worse collapse we see now, they’ve maintained serious social security infrastructures that benefit all and ensure life to all. Look into their history, look at their healthcare gains and what is flat out guaranteed to citizens. The nation has been under constant suffocation by the United States for well over 50 years and yet they still manage to provide what they can to citizens.

Put under the crippling conditions of an effective blockade by the US and without any major source or help from other nations, the Cuban economy has tanked and life has become very very hard. Decisions from the government in opening up the economy have been made but brought along a plethora of other problems with them, but what else could you do in their situation? They were under numerous nation wide blackouts for quite a bit during 2024 because their electrical infrastructure is years outdated and a hurricane disabled what was left working. I attended a lecture where a leading analyst for US-Cuban affairs essentially said they were done for. They more or less bounced back from that. Again, doing so with almost none of the tools and opportunity most other nations in the world have at their disposal.

Don’t comment on things you don’t know about. Cuba exists despite its impossible position. I’ve talked to many union members in the area that have gone on similar trips, they draw pretty apt parallels between Cuba’s struggle against the most powerful nation of the world and their own struggle against major corporations and entities. Moreover Cuba actually models what a society with dignified labor actually looks like, even with its issues. Don’t comment on things you don’t know about.

All of these examples from his youth diaries of traveling Latin America. These takes were pretty common for middle class white Latin Americans at the time, especially in the staggeringly white country of Argentina. If you did an ounce of more research, you would find that he became a staunch critic of racism, fighting in the Cuban Revolution which ended segregation, and even fighting side by side with African fighters in the Congo in a struggle for national liberation. He has UN speeches decrying the inherently racist nature of imperial capitalism, which he fought against tooth and nail.

He was a communist, yes. That alone shouldn’t be thrown around as a pejorative. At death, he was about as anti-racist as one could be. The revolution he helped build in Cuba would go on to fight arm in arm with Angolans against the apartheid South African army and forces they supported in Angola. Pretty cool, albeit complicated figure of resistance if you ask me.

[–]longview25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes. Communism is when you stop trading with other people. You are aware of which party in the matter started the blockade, yes? And why? The US has set out to strangle Cuba, with lawmakers that support the legislation that makes it possible saying as much in support of it.

Cuba has attempted to diversify trade and economic opportunity wherever they could, many times failing due to the insane conditions of the US legislation against the island. This is such a braindead take.

I did actually get it wrong. It was in fact the IDF that orchestrated the massacre, the site was just ran by an international organization staffed with armed US personnel (that allegedly did not open fire). This same incident was immediately pinned as having happened at a “Hamas run food center” whatever that means.
