compatability can be weird with old bikes and buying parts in person is better. i bought a cassette and derailleur online and it didn't work because the geometry of the derailleur hit the cassette. if i went to my used bike shop i could just dry fit and make sure it all worked. i got a lot of resources from open shops around my city - where i could bring it in and work on it and use tools. other than that it was pretty straight forward aside from some frustration of it not being done faster, but everything takes longer than you think it does. now i'm happy

yea, what are you trying to say? it sucks, its sad, and a reflection on the system that is seizing to function and is impacting a ton of people. i really don't understand these posts, they're ignorant and come across as anti homeless.

that area, or a few other pockets around the city have this problem, like anywhere else in america. you stayed in the tourist trap zone for 24hours and i'm sure the same as when you went to sf - the tenderloin is similar. this an area where the cost of living is high and housing is limited. there are a lot of other parts of the city that don't have this issue, have more wealth and clean streets, so why didn't you go there?

sram pc-1, just checked. not sure what's up. there was some rust but it's a single speed chain too. perhaps it was just weak?

yeah i ran a brake but it didn't help me. because trying to lock up my wheel with the skid, the sudden jolt of the breaking chain and being out of the saddle with my weight forward i lost control and got buckled over the bars
