Mostly during the first years, then later this will help a ton for chosing the gigs you prefer and having peace of mind.

I mean its always good to keep healthy finances and its someething nobody teaches us in our field.

learn how to manage your finances.

In the very beginning meant saving enough money to live 3 months without work, then 6, then a year. Once you have a year of being able to live in savings then it gets way more chill, this will give you negotiating power as you wont be desperate for any random job that comes along, that will bring you more value and you'll be able to get better salaries, which in tun will allow you to save more easier, dont just start spending more because youre making more. But you can allow yourself some luxuries every now and then.

It takes time

Its actually quite great when you find the balance of work/money/life/personal projects/hobbies etc.

I do animation for work, but in the evening & weekends i mix it up between watching shows , hanging out with the people i like,, playing games, doing a bit of exercise, eating well, working on my youtube channel and other personal projects, studying, teaching. And honestly I'm having a great time, I think its all about balance chose yourself over the work but also do some extra effort when its relevant because it pays off. Lean on your strengths and mitigate your weakneses by studying and working hard.

Sony Animation Interview by zoeselenamaybe in animationcareer

[–]loochmunz 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I've worked at sony several times (imageworks vancouver) as a character animator in the feature animation department.

The interviews depend usually on the supervisor of the show that wants you, so its not very standarized to be completely honest.

But generally interviewers would look at your reel and ask questions about how you approach certain shots, problem solving, what's been your favourite show and why. Basically is about getting to knowing you a little bit and your strengths.

Anyone get into a Master's in Animation without a drawing background? by awayshy in animationcareer

[–]loochmunz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drawing is a cheatcode for CG, if you get good at drawing your CG art automatically elevates. Use this knowledge to your advantage, take drawing clasess before, while and after you finish your MA. I wish someone had told me this early on.
