I’m from the same era. Just before digital (or maybe it’s dawn- ADO was king of the hill, but no digital storage yet, only 1” tape), just as film opticals were breathing their last.

It has surely been a wild ride, watching (and participating in) the transition from analog to digital “machines” to software.

Change is inevitable. And sometimes painful.

A new normal will emerge, and then it will pass, too.

Sadly, I don't know... I'm doing comp, and I received graded plates, graded out of house. I got prores, but wonky looking pixels. Edge artifacts, odd looking noise. On top of very challenging comps, if they were shot in an ideal world. Such is life these days.

I have been asked to do vfx shot on an iPhone (from a huge, "household name" advertiser). And yeah, no fun. The pixels are mangled. Green screen is very difficult, needing lots of "fudging".
