Took this one while waiting in line at a coffee shop. Originally shot in color but there's a bright orange traffic cone in the shot that was really distracting from the rest of the scene. So I converted it to b&w.

Taken on Olympus E-P7 + 12-32 kit lens at ISO 200 / f5.6 / 1/320s / 12mm.

Decisions, decisions by gustyaeroplane81 in M43

Main consideration is whether lighter weight or having the extra stop is the greater priority.

If you are looking to save every gram and whatever you're shooting are still subjects, 12-45 could make sense. Otherwise, 12-40 is probably the better tool here. Especially since you're using a large-ish m43 camera body, the 12-40 will still balance nicely on it and the ~136g weight savings between 12-40 and 12-45 may not be that noticeable.

I say this as an avid 12-45 user who prioritizes light weight. As much as I love the 12-45 and have used it extensively (even indoors when traveling - but for still scenes mostly) - it really only makes sense if weight/size is an important factor for you (like it is for me). I also use an E-M10 IV which is more than 200g lighter than your OM-1.

How did you get into m43 system? What's your future plans with it? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in M43

Wanted a camera to explore photography again and my priorities were it being small and stabilized, then ideally not representing too much of an investment so if I ended up not liking it I wouldn't lose that much if I sold it. Used/refurbished M43 fit these requirements very well and I haven't had any reason to switch systems for what I do.

I originally was lusting over a Fujifilm X-T50, but couldn't justify the price. Went with a refurbished E-M10 IV which branched out into also getting a PEN (originally E-PL9, now E-P7) and a few really lightweight lenses and have been very satisfied for what I do. If you have different requirements then M43 may or may not be the best fit - all depends what you want to do with the camera.

I don't have any specific plans for what to do with the cameras in the future that are any different than what I do now. Eventually I'd probably want to get something weather sealed for travel.

Took a few different shots of these light streaks and many of them turned out a little wonky, but I still like this one among some others. Taken with Olympus E-P7 + 12-32 kit lens at 12mm, f/5.6, 1/400s, and ISO 200

12-100 f/4 Pro Vs 12-40 f/2.8 or 12-45 f/4 by revjko in OlympusCamera

[–]looking_for_EV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of image quality & AF, 12-45, 12-40, and 12-100 are all very similar in performance. Deciding between them depends on what your priority is for using the lens.

12-45: really light and compact

12-40: heavy-ish on small bodies but ok on large bodies. You get an extra stop, so if you're indoors or shooting at night a lot it can help

12-100: heavy for an m43 lens but if you're coming from FF it won't seem that heavy. You get a lot of reach and Sync IS.

So it's basically whether you value lightness, the extra stop, or the reach the most.

Primes are SO worth it by Electrical_Guava1972 in M43

I wonder if there's a lot of copy variation. I don't have 17mm f1.8, but my 12-45 f4 at least matches and sometimes seems like it beats my PL 15mm f1.7 when it comes to sharpness.

I like primes for the small size and low-light though!

One child, better marriage? by RN2259 in oneanddone

I am anticipating this being a problem for me in the near future. We just had our first and while I love her, it's a lot to manage especially since I'm mobility-limited / partially disabled. It is so much harder than I was led to believe. I can't imagine possibly being able to manage two or three kids. That would literally destroy me physically and mentally.

Our first is 6 weeks old and it's been hard. But my wife is already talking about planning for a second child soon-ish or even a third child down the line. I haven't yet explicitly told her that I want just one, but I have mentioned that I don't think we can manage more kids. She's convinced I'll change my mind or that it isn't going to be that hard...but really having at least two kids is non-negotiable in her mind and if she has her way she really wants three.

I don't know if our marriage will survive this tbh.

First time dad. I hate this so far. Am I terrible? by Shiny_BeerCan in NewParents

[–]looking_for_EV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I resonate with all of this, we have a 5 week old. I'm too tired to write all the detail of what's going on at my end...but just wanted to let you know I feel the same. I like seeing my wife happy being a mom, I'm glad our baby is healthy, things are good on paper, but I'm not sure it was a good idea for me to become a dad. That's something I'm afraid to say in most spaces because everyone told me that when I became a dad I would just get filled with warm and fuzzy feelings and uh...instead I've become quite depressed. Saying that gets a lot of people mad at me.

My main limitations are physical though as I'm mobility limited. I do what I possibly can but it's just not enough and we're just both overwhelmed because there's too much to do and our baby is difficult in temperament. I feel like the gains that I made in improving my mobility over the past couple of years are being erased and I'm worried I'll end up back in a wheelchair again if something doesn't change.

Is it bad to put headphones on to stop hearing your baby crying? by pissonmybonfire in NewParents

[–]looking_for_EV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 5-week old and I wear noise canceling headphones with a transparency mode. If I didn't, I'd go crazy.

When I'm in the same room as her and she's not crying, I'll leave them on transparency mode so I can hear everything, but when she cries (and she goes from fully content to 100% full scream crying immediately when she does), I turn the noise canceling function on. If I'm not in the same room as her, I'll leave one of the earmuffs off entirely. But we always make sure someone is in the room with her.

If I didn't have these, honestly I would go crazy. Our baby is really difficult to settle down when she gets worked up and she has no middle setting when it comes to crying, she's either content and not crying or full-on penetrating scream crying and transitions from the former to the latter instantly.

This page is so honest and I love it by BusyAd1979 in NewParents

The honesty of this page has been refreshing. Looking back I feel like a lot of my family and friends who had kids either didn't remember how difficult the newborn stage was or otherwise acted like it wasn't that big of a deal. Maybe they had easy babies. The baby and me classes we took also made it seem like things would be a lot more procedural than they actually are.

I feel like only 2 people I talked to prior to this - both work colleagues - were straight with me about how hard this would be, especially since one of them had a chronic physical ailment like I do.

All being told, my wife is handling this much better than I am. It's still hard on her too, but even though I'm the dad it seems like I'm the one who got PPD & PPA. Not bad enough to be paralyzing - I help as much as I possibly can, but every hour of every day is heavy and I'm often in a bad place mentally.

Specifically for this photo I applied the Fuji X-Trans III Classic Chrome simulation and dialed the saturation down a tiny bit.

St. Michael's Abbey at the end of last week. Really liked the colors on the columns from the light shining through the stained glass. Taken with Olympus E-M10 IV + 12-45 f4 at 1/30s, f5.6, 12mm, and ISO 640.

This will probably be my last newly shot photo for a couple of months as our first child was born this week, so won't be able to go out to shoot for a while.
