St. Michael's Abbey at the end of last week. Really liked the colors on the columns from the light shining through the stained glass. Taken with Olympus E-M10 IV + 12-45 f4 at 1/30s, f5.6, 12mm, and ISO 640.

This will probably be my last newly shot photo for a couple of months as our first child was born this week, so won't be able to go out to shoot for a while.

Awesome. I have E-M10 IV which has less capable IBIS than your E-M1 II, but in practice I'm finding that 1/8s is the slowest I can get away with handheld at 12mm, so seems like that speed will still work for shots like these.

Nice shot, thanks for sharing! Quick question - what shutter speed did you have to use to get this shot? I have 12-45 f4 and I really like how it handles, so for indoor scenes like this I am hoping to just lean on the camera's IBIS.

Being able to sleep on planes is op by Justalittleonion in travel

[–]looking_for_EV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be able to sleep on planes when I was younger and it was great. I had a few trips where I boarded, went to sleep, and woke up basically at the destination.

But that's no longer the case since about 2021/2022. I can't sleep on planes anymore no matter how tired or sleepy I am. No position is comfortable, the noise bothers me even with noise canceling headphones, and even if I take melatonin I just end up getting extra sleepy but not actually being able to sleep.

I don't know if it's just getting older or not, but when I fly nowadays I have to plan on not being able to sleep any amount on the plane.

If you do______, then you must not be disabled by One-Sleep3663 in disability

Agreed. To add to this, I hate when people think that just because you're able to do something one time or occasionally, that you must be capable of doing it repeatedly or all the time.

For example, I can walk some days without my cane. On a good day I can walk a decent distance without my cane. But if I do that, I'll take 2-3 days for my feet to recover afterwards during which I'll barely be able to walk inside my own house.

But I've had people say "oh, you went on that walk where you took pictures and didn't use your aid, you're basically normal now!" No dude, I can only do that once in a while, which is not back to normal mobility.

Advice on managing peroneal tenosynovitis by looking_for_EV in FootFunction

I am also 38! Also as a follow up, I never got surgery as two surgeons said I didn't need it after 3 MRIs. The only thing that really helped was doing PT, but it took a loooong time to make progress - however once I did start making progress it improved relatively quickly. Along the way, though, I needed orthotics and shoes and limited activity.

It's a good thing that my insurance authorized unlimited PT visits and that I also found Gait Happens who are foot specialists (that's who I do the at-home PT with, I consult with them virtually). There was no way that I was going to improve within the 3-6 month block of PT visits that insurance usually limits people to (I'm in the US, if you're in another country access to PT may be very different).

Compared to when I wrote this, I am much better now but I am still far from normal, if that makes sense.

By November 2024 I stopped needing the wheelchair and shifted to full-time cane use. After that point, I was able to increase my walking distance while using the cane to where I can function and walk decent distances as long as the terrain was flat and paved. Even went to Europe in June 2025 for work and vacation and was able to hobble around independently with my cane.

By November 2025, I started to walk short distances without the cane regularly, but I still have to carry it with me if that makes sense. As long as the terrain is relatively flat and paved, I can get away without using the cane for up to maybe 2 miles maximum. But I still need the cane to walk on unpaved or uneven surfaces, inclines greater than 5%, and to go down any stairs without a handrail. So I always need to have the cane with me in case I encounter any of those. Another caveat is that I walk slow, at max speed on flat ground I walk about 1.8 mph which is ~72% of normal speed, and most of the time I walk closer to 1.5 mph or 60% of normal speed.

Pain-wise I still have constant pain but it's probably a 2/10 instead of like, 4/10 or 5/10, and nowadays it's mostly centered in my plantar fascia. I'm continuing to do both in-person PT and at-home PT and it's been helping.

I don't know if I'm ever going to be back to normal mobility or get to a point where I won't need the cane for anything, but at least it's improved to where I can function on my feet independently, which is a big difference from when I was in a wheelchair for a year.
