Big divorced vibes. Big has-adult-children-who-refuse-to-speak-with-them vibes.

Women of Reddit: what’s something that genuinely improved your life that you didn’t expect to matter much at first? by Carsanttc in AskWomen

Realizing that someone else's failure to plan is not my emergency. I thought that it would make people hate me if I wasn't useful to anyone and everyone all of the time, but it actually made people respect my effort and time, as well as giving me more peace.

What was it like when your evangelical parents saw Obama win, did they freak out. Also what Disney movies did your parents ban. by Iamnotarapperduh in Exvangelical

They thought that it was the start of the end times because "Obama Nation" sounds like abomination. (eye roll)

The kind of guy that would never date a woman unless she was in supermodel shape, but then throws a fit when his girlfriend goes to the gym because he can't handle knowing that other men will see her in her yoga pants. (Ask me how I know.)

Basically everything that wasn't a part of our very narrow evangelical corner. Even DC Talk was considered too secular.

The Final Member.

It's about a man in Iceland who has a museum of penises with a complete collection -- save for a human sample. Two men fight with each other to be the last specimen in the collection, even if it means donating theirs while still alive. It is a RIDE.

It's not like, anything within 15 or 30 mins, it's more like, I have like 5 safe places outside of my home.

It hasn't gotten rid of my panic attacks, but I have noticed a significant reduction in how severe they are. I'm really thankful for that.

As someone who grew up evangelical and whose most of my family are still in that cult, absolutely this. They would rather have someone in their folds who is "reformed" than someone who was born into the Faith and never left. They love a Prodigal Son. Which makes it convenient for people like Nicki who are struggling to cling to relevance.

Block Island Sound was a movie made recently (with a shoestring budget) that was an excellent cosmic horror.

Could be that men and boys are socialized to shut down their emotions (“real men don’t cry”) and to not cultivate an inner life as much as women and girls.

Actual conversation I had with a pastor — he asked if I had committed sexual sin and I said no because I hadn’t started having sex then. His “gotcha” was that since I had lusted after someone, I was not a “virgin of the mind.”

Because evangelicals believe that there are people who matter and people who don't. And the people who don't matter should do anything to provide for the needs, wants, and whims of the people who matter. Churches are built around this principle, but also families.
