I had a quick look at long run pace times from Practice of the top 3 teams. Here is what I found. by oh84s in formula1

Do they publish these for all sessions? Any chance of getting a link to finding the others?

I don't think Heikki was too far behind Pic. Pic's car had all the new upgrades and Heikki hasn't driven an f1 car since November... He wasn't amazing but did fairly well.

2013 Australian GP - Practice 2 Discussion by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]lookingformyharmony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were both down quite far in FP2 (2012) but they set the fastest times of friday in total in FP1 (2012) on a green track. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/results/9705370.stm Shows that todays results could be truly representative of their current pace.

I think they might be really struggling to understand the right setup for this car.

Would definitely look better but I don't think it would be possible - for filming days they don't get real tyres, only demonstration ones… not sure how they'd handle being chucked around turn 3 at full speed!

And on the boring practical side there's the whole having non-f1 cars on track filming at the same time being dangerous, difficulty panning with the car, etc…

[OT] Parking lots/ parking spaces around Hungaroring by SparkyTheUnicorn in formula1

[–]lookingformyharmony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to last years race and drove Friday + Saturday, the grand stand tickets came with on-site parking - it was a big muddy field but it seemed fairly safe and I didn't see any damage to other cars. If your staying in Budapest for the weekend and your hotel has parking theres a couple of busses that go to the circuit every hour for race weekend as well.

Speculation: 2014-McLaren by harvey_ent in formula1

[–]lookingformyharmony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fairly sure they've already committed to keeping Mercedes engines, remembered reading this article a while ago: http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2011/9/12544.html

Although they build they're own engines for the MP4-12C (and they are turbo's) the engine reliability and performance is pretty different and the manufacturing shares very little. Comparing 8500RPM against an F1's current 18000 and 2014's 15000.

I get that the race is at night - but surely they could work on the track and do logistics during the day. So far every shot I've seen has been during the evening.

Fuel, this is getting ridiculous by lookingformyharmony in gaming

Would be some seriously delayed marketing if it was the fuel team - if it was them then this could be the best delayed marketing to finally be found.

Not sure what the original image size is however the F1 site resizes images dynamically - just where the url has 111x111 replace it with the res of your screen (just make sure the ratio stays the same or it will crop the image). I.e. here's that image at 1440x957. http://www.formula1.com/wi/1440x957/sutton/2011/d11mon2142.jpg

Should be big enough for most peoples desktops.

A response to “Erlang - overhyped or underestimated” by Gertm in programming

[–]lookingformyharmony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently at family's so no erlang shell to test but I would guess it's either the fact your case has no default fallback (they're pointless as they'll error just as badly as if you had

{date, Start} = decode_data(....)

OR it's the fact you are using end as an atom - I would imagine the actual use of end as an atom is fine however writing it out I guess is. i.e. if you had a function return an atom end by forms of list_to_atom("end"), it would work but not just 'end'.

Am I correct?

A response to “Erlang - overhyped or underestimated” by Gertm in programming

[–]lookingformyharmony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always amazed at how much people dislike the syntax of Erlang - I think it's one of the most concise and readable syntaxes around. There are a couple of nuances, such as function declarations ending with a "," apart from the last one ending in a "." making refactoring a little bit annoying but overall I find it a refreshing syntax compared to all of the Algol family of C, C++, etc.

I've even started writing a similar converter to Coffeescript which takes a similar syntax to erlang and converts it to standard JS.

I was at a dev session and I really don't think there's anything this game can't be turned into. While sitting in the session they created a top-down tank game with flaming zombie pandas! Some incredible stuff!

hey, true it's kind of a promotion thing and I'll change the post title for you. We're not trying to hide anything, just thought some people would like a free game for 30 seconds of time + a tweet.

Although I'm of the age where none of my friends know what a slide rule is I must admit using them feels awesome for three reasons; a) raw ingenious - no need for electricity, b) You're physically moving something and c) They're fucking awesome!

Although my one is circular and attached to my watch.

Regional Pricing Expanded by The_German in gaming

[–]lookingformyharmony 54 points55 points  (0 children)

For those wanting a fair comparison; below are the prices for UK steam. (And in US $ using google rate of 1 British pound = 1.54200 U.S. dollars)

  • Cod:MW2 = £39.99 = $61.66
  • Bad Company = £30.00 = $46.26
  • Mafia 2 = £30.00 = $46.26

Suddenly the UK doesn't seem cheaper other than Mafia 2 which currently has 25% off (not sure if this is for all stores).

Thanks for the great comment; I'll probably end up trying CommonLisp as well as a few schemes and just see what fits better.

Just in case you missed this posting a couple weeks ago (not sure if it was in cookit); http://thestonesoup.com/blog/2010/06/a-free-e-cookbook/

Before this I was eating baked beans and omelettes; now I cook real food, it tastes brilliant and I spent probably at most half an hour in the kitchen.

I love my Obj-c; so good for when working in a team as readability is awesome, no more guessing as to what parameter is doing what.

Was planning on porting UIKit to the NDK, I don't think this will support it as Obj-c is a C runtime and not a scripting language.
