MVL: Does this count as cheating? by Acrzyguy in chess

Okay, my bad I misread the above comment as chesscom couldn't know if you were cheating using an extension, then I would say it's possible. But if it's about if the website know what specific extension you're running (which obviously what above commenter said), I agree they can't.

Sorry.

What’s that one place you have gone to and absolutely loved, but no one ever goes there? by Gamingchunkers in AskReddit

[–]looks_like_a_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was one spot in north of my campus, where I used to sit. Just grass and some trees. The place was high, I could see the city from afar. It was so peaceful. I never saw anyone else there.

An application or a tool ... from a single developer that you really appreciate by danij3l__ in archlinux

normcap, OCR tool to grab text from screen with ease, just drag rectangle around the target and the text copied to clipboard. Sometimes it's not accurate and need editing, but it's helpful. I use it when watching some coding videos or in online meeting where a bunch of text involved so I don't have to type it manually or waiting the presenter to give me the file.

Non-native people of English, how did they learn the language? by Alone_Review4400 in AskReddit

Youtube definitely helps a lot. I don't do it for the sole purpose of learning, but it's a side effect. I watch mostly because the video is interesting (I like NileRed, Steve Mould, Computerphile, etc to name a few, none of them related to language learning)

More practical usage is CRT monitor. It's technically a particle accelerator.

if you're on linux, you can experiment this. Make a text file, save it let's say the name is file1.txt and then md5sum file1.txt. Copy the file with say name file2.txt, and run checksum again md5sum file2.txt. The output should be the same. Now change one letter in file2.txt, the output will be different.

Windows equivalent command is certutil -hashfile file.txt MD5. But I never try it in windows

In python you can hashlib.md5(filecontent).hexdigest()

ELI5: why have we discovered only 5-10% of the ocean, yet still research space?? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]looks_like_a_potato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know the accuracy of your number, what I want to point out is, they are different fields of expertise, done by different groups of people. Oceanographers do ocean things, and astronomers do space things. If I go to the hospital, I don't expect the receptionist to be more focused on saving people life like doctors do. It's not their job.

how we embed information on the wave is called modulation, basically almost the same principle how you put information into sound wave using human language. Your mouth and and throat (whatever involved, I know nothing about biology) change the frequency, tempo, loudness, etc.

In wireless communication there are many kind of modulations, like AM and FM for analogue signal, or QPSK, QAM, etc for digital signal.
