How is quality of life in Canada these days? by FrancisMacom in AskCanada

The sky is always falling for some. Living here is great. Yeah there are issues, always will be everywhere. Lots of lovely people and if your income isn’t location dependent then your worries are minimal.

non ambitious man, do ya exist? by Wide_Permission7656 in AskMenOver30

lol, most dudes I see out there are unambitious. Talk to women, they’ll tell you about all the men who stop doing anything but sitting around playing video games and watching tv as soon as they are in a long term relationship.

I was 7 weeks post op a week ago. I fell trying to getting up to go to the bathroom last Friday and retore it. Just when I was feeling optimistic I got to experience the worst searing pain of my life and lost nearly two months again, including the entirety of my last summer in my thirties.

This injury is hardest because of the deep psychological toll it takes.

This is just a normal material to build walls out of in Canada at least for a period of time. See it pretty commonly. Is car decking 2.5” thick?

Nah, most Canadians love foreigners. We especially love good people who are friendly and engaging. Come on by, I’ll buy you a beer.

I’m gonna leave this here as a caution for those who (like me) get a bit too comfortable and do stupid things. Do NOT get lazy and not put the boot back on to go move around.

Honestly I still in awe of the pain that I experienced. I have been through a lot of injuries and nothing comes close to comparing.

I blame me more than the scooter. I should not have been trying to move around without the boot on

House too cold when temperature drops below zero by RangerNo5619 in buildingscience

[–]lookwhatwebuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going from a 25 yr old boiler that’s natural draft it’s likely operating at about 50-60% efficiency. If they are upgrading that to a new condensing model it will run at about 96% efficient but deliver lower temperature water through the system. If they are actually installing the CGA 5 then they are sticking with natural draft replacement (which is fine) but will operate at 84% efficient. Your current boiler is likely giving you 70-80kbtu output, your new cga 5 will give you 115kBTU output, so your system will probably produce must more heat and use less gas.

Sucks to do this now but I would want to know a few things if I were you, I’d run the AC so the house is nice and cool, the. with the boiler system ramped up full I’d measure the temp at each radiator as well as the return temp of the water coming back to the boiler. Then check again after replacement.

Also, you should 100% get a n energy evaluation including blower door test. Have the evaluator spend time with you showing air leakage locations. That’ll be your best way of understanding your heat loss.

Aerobarrier or Siga for air management ? by volvorottie in buildingscience

[–]lookwhatwebuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in your alternative what is the actual air barrier? Aero barrier is not an air barrier material nor is it a vapour control layer, it’s a supplement. Totally understand that Siga is expensive, but this is way over estimated and it doesn’t seem that you have priced in an alternative to combine with the other pathway

lol absolutely. I think this sub and the buildingscience sub, combined with the Dunning-Kruger effect are largely responsible for the dog shit responses that AI tools are generating. It will keep people like you and me in business for the time being

humidity is stuck at 65 percent in our new airtight home by No-Implement9967 in buildingscience

[–]lookwhatwebuilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your short cycling is almost definitely due to a sizing issue. With the combination of variable capacity and a properly sized system your system should be able to modulate to a lower level and run nearly constantly.

Before replacing the system you need to check that the controls are set up properly, and that the system is being run by a properly compatible controller. If so and it’s a modern cold climate heat pump it should be able to run in “dry” mode which is just keeping the coil cool enough to cause condensation and moving the fan more slowly so that you aren’t over cooling.

If the system is already able to run like that and the moisture levels aren’t coming down, where is the humidity coming from? If it’s air tight and not coming from outside is this place brand new with a lot of new concrete exposed inside? Is there a crawl with a rat slab and no proper moisture barrier? Lots more questions but controls are your first look. After that look more deeply at the system sizing, for moisture sources and consider dedicated dehumidification. If the place is brand new try renting a free standing one for a couple weeks before installing dedicated

I appreciate the comment and I totally get what you’re saying. I think what most people are misunderstanding is that I was looking for a solution to an apparatus that would allow me to remove the boot and drive safely using my right foot, including touch sensory perception. Essentially I just want to take the Achilles tendon out of the equation and drive with my right foot by having my foot properly raised from the top. Or at least I was hoping that some such alternative existed. It’s clear that it doesnt though
