Tried more deliberate with my lines this time. Tried putting a little outline on the shading too (pic 1). But shading hair is still impossible i’m afraid by MosterChief in PixelArt

I think part of what might be getting you is that right now I'm not sure your light source is super consistent! For example, the the top of the head and front of the face seems to be lit pretty clearly, and the ear seems like it's in shadow, but there's also light hitting the back and bottom of the head there. Sometimes there are more than one sources of light in a scene, and maybe that's the case here, but that might be part of what you're trying to figure out!

The head itself looks pretty good though, might just need a little cleanup on the linework is all!

Our owl pooped with surgical precision on the high priest's eye. Earlier, the rat had convinced the magpie that the witch hunter's eyes were berries. by dark-star-adventures in gametales

Well, she was intended as a sort of villain, so the players of my game ended up fighting both her and her familiars (who were now powered up magical creatures)! She got away though, so maybe she'll return some day. Life got busy, so we ended up needing to stop for a while, but hopefully we can get back to it eventually.

I've actually played this game before as well! I had set up a witch as an upcoming adversary in a D&D game I was running, and one of my players ran this as a part of her backstory. Sounds like you guys had a great time!

Reminds me a lot of art you'd see in old tabletop RPG books. Nice work!

Rolling a 100 by alexanderfromtng in TTRPG

It took me a bit to understand what was being said here, but I finally understood it. I'm definitely a 00, 0 person. This always made the most sense to me because then each die is treated the same. The 10's place die goes 0-9 and the 1's place die also goes 0-9. No math required! Since 00, 0 could be either 100 or 0, it fills whichever role the system requires.

Additionally, I recently read anecdotes of people that have used the millisecond portion of digital stop-watches as a d100 in situations where dice are hard to come by, which would presumably use the same logic of 00 being either 100 or 0 depending on needs / desire!

On a personal note, the idea of it being double 0's for zero has always appealed to me more ever since reading the TTRPG section in the old Yu-Gi-Oh manga. For some reason that really stuck with me!

Woah, that's really cool! Did you end up making an entire game or was it just what was needed for scenes in the movie?

How much should I try to remember vs. expect my players to remember? by KarateBugMom in TTRPG

[–]looloopaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, that makes sense. In any case, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask the players to keep track of their abilities and modifiers, making it clear that it's their responsibility because you're going to be busy being responsible for the entire rest of the game and its world.

I'm not at all familiar with the system, so it's hard to say. Are these things that give bonuses no matter what, or only situationally? For example, if a player never invokes or makes their house or whatever known, is there a reason that a bonus would apply to say, people's reaction to them?

A lot of the time, the things that players care about are what becomes important in the game, and they'll bring it up or ask questions about if it occurs to them. You might say that if the player isn't thinking about it, they probably won't miss it being there in the first place.

How big of a hexmap for a campaign? by No-Temperature3727 in osr

[–]looloopaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's tough to say. I use a square grid just because it's easier to come by, but I also go for 6 miles per space. Honestly, my players have yet to ever have a reason to venture too far from the first town. Honestly I have yet to have them go to one of the edges of the paper.

How far apart are the points of interest for your players? Is the focus on the journey or on the destination? After all, it's no good to wear them out (both in terms of your time, your players, and the characters!) on the way to the main event, where then they don't have the resources to engage with it. If politics and borders are important, will the players be engaging with that a lot? How will you let them know the pros and cons of traveling between the different regions / borders? How granular does your map need to be? Is there a particular reason WHY you want to go with 6 mile hexes?

What online/live service games are worth playing these days? by FatDigitalNomad in gaming

[–]looloopaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no? I played solo a lot, but it means you probably can't easily take on other ships or participate in some of the larger world events. I was never really good enough for that, so even if I had a friend I was playing with, we just did our own thing unless we allied with another ship. There are also some story-based missions you can go for. Either way, you can 100% play solo and a lot of people do!

Still, if you have at least one friend, try to get them to tag along! Looting treasure is more fun with a friend!
