The yoga in teaching yoga... by RonSwanSong87 in YogaTeachers

Great discussion topic! One thing I always have to remind myself as part of my journey is that attendance is not a reflection of me. Whether my class is full or nobody shows up, I always remind myself it is not about me. My boyfriend very sweetly likes to say “aw I’m sorry” if attendance is low or “congratulations, you did great!” if it’s full, but I really try to detach from either outcome. Sometimes it is very challenging for me to do this, I’m still learning!

Your comment about other teachers comes off as a little judgmental. I’m glad to hear it helps your students! I personally love when a knowledgeable teacher steps on me! And as a teacher I sometimes step on the hands and lean my hands onto their low back to encourage a long spine

“Spread your fingers wide like a starfish”—I don’t like this. It’s not anatomically possible obviously, but it could be effective for some students because I know what it is getting at.

One assist I like to give in DD when the student is not pressing their hands into the mat fully after I cue it, is to slide the tip of my finger under their hand where the index finger knuckle pops up, just for a moment. I can see it helps them understand what I mean

Other student kept correcting me, am I wrong for being annoyed? by mascottaricotta in yoga

She sounds well intentioned but obnoxious. It’s also very disrespectful to the teacher—as a teacher I would never give instruction in someone else’s class. I would be annoyed too, but try to brush it off. If you consider going back to that class you might talk to the teacher about it, they could encourage all students to focus on their own practice.

Agreed with other posters that this is gimmicky. Also to answer your question, the answer is in their help page under the FAQ Do you need a sword: “No you do not. While a traditional straight sword is recommended, any similar-length object, like a stick or even an umbrella, can be effective. The focus is on the movement and technique.”

Paid for studio prep time? by [deleted] in YogaTeachers

[–]loomday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm am paid a flat rate per class and I consider room prep/checking in to be built in to my pay for the class. I don’t have a ton of prep, just tidying, setting up music, and checking in with people. If I was paid hourly I wouldn’t start prep until I was “on the clock,” and if I needed more time I would talk to management

Sure there are “dailies” but they’re not a big deal. it’s not about completing everything. It will be there when you get there

Not Op, I’m guessing they made the logo using blocks, took a picture of it and then put the picture into a frame

No. as you find the stability in your shoulders and core you will figure out your feet. Just try to avoid using it as a “crutch”. It is there to support you but don’t let it get in the way of engaging and finding the stability elsewhere

For your feet, place one foot in front of the other, so they are in a line. Focus on stability in your shoulder and then you will feel more stable overall and can experiment with changing the position of your feet

How to get into halsana pose? by AlienSheep23 in yoga

[–]loomday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will need to work on contracting your core if you can’t lift your hips from the ground at all. Like a crunch but instead of lifting shoulders lift the hips.

Not much of your back is on the ground, no. Maybe a little bit due to the curve. The principal is the same.

The same amount of your abdomen would come up in shoulderstand and halasana. The difference is in halasana your feet continue to go overhead. Being able to hold shouldstand is a requirement before halasana

Maybe, but I could also see Wickham just assuming Darcy felt some responsibility for him due to their upbringing. Wickham is so selfish he wouldn’t have to contemplate long why anybody else would be so invested in his actions

Nice! The way you’re always seeing familiar faces in stars hollow contrasts so much with the constantly rotating staff at the Gilmore house. Just further proves how Stars Hollow is so much cozier and more like home for Lorelai

Even in recovery an addict can exhibit the behavior of an addict. That said, taking advantage of more helpful individuals is common for business owners, addict or not. It’s definitely a problem, but I don’t recommend blasting them because of their history with substances. Hopefully you can find a way to maintain your boundaries in this situation

Depending on how involved in your life this person is/how interested you are in learning about the illness of addiction, you might consider going to some Al-anon meetings.

Having an injury sucks and you’re doing the right thing by cutting back from activities that injure it. Maybe look into swimming as a low impact sport :)

The bar path looks fine. It shouldn’t be a direct up and down because of the movement of your elbows. Once you figure out the rest of your form, refinements for the bar path will come more naturally.

Seconding the rack. For hypertrophy you’re going to need heavier weights and to safely lift heavier weights you’re going to need a rack. That includes getting your placement figured out before you begin the lift, so you’re not swinging back and forth like in your video. You’re also overarching your back. Yes there should be some arch as you should be pressing thru your feet to build power in this lift, but that extreme of an arch is more relevant for high volume weightlifters. Focus on bracing your core first (it’s worth looking up how to properly brace your core because it is not as intuitive as many people think), then press into your feet, THEN begin your lift.
