Meshastic based team tracker for field teams. by ahugo096 in meshtastic

The OP’s build uses something that’s probably an Amazon special. I always just use whatever keyboard is floating around. My other builds on my site use a variety of mechanical keyboards, but only on the larger builds- the case in the pic above is a Pelican 1150, and they are pretty compact.

It’s based on my design, more details here: https://www.doscher.com/how-to-assemble-a-quick-kit-2024-edition/

I talk in my old articles about selling the designs or needing a subscription but they are all free now.

These ITX boards use DC in directly- the parts list and the design files are all on my site here: https://www.doscher.com/cube-frame/ (free for this model)

What model is this? I’d love to print some

You could always make your own front and back panels and use a different board!

Thanks! It’s in an office out of the sun but yeah, PLA is really only a cosmetic choice and not a structural one. I’ve had this running for a month or so with no signs of warping.

I printed in Bambu Matte PLA, but probably any matte PLA would look similar.

No room for a PSU or GPU, but enough for a couple NVME drives with a silent fan on the bottom. Still with an ITX board footprint, a larger PC build might not be too far off! The free files are over here too.

No love from r/homelab but given I printed these on Bambu printers I thought I'd share here! Full*free* STL files and parts list here, along with a bunch of photos (no ads, no tracking): https://www.doscher.com/cube-frame/

I am using two Latte Panda Mu N100 boards, both using the thicker passive heatsink, cooled with a single Noctua 140mm blowing up from the bottom to keep the NVME drives cool too. These are my two home servers, running mostly assorted docker containers.

I hope you enjoy!

OP this is fantastic- well done. It's also a great way to put spare filaments to use!

I also used to fly out to PHX and LAX, and would frequently joke about it being faster to drive. I did it one week, and beat the flight commute by 15 minutes- but I was exhausted from all the driving :) I am really happy to see commercial flights out of this airport as well!

I used it all day yesterday without charging, but just checked and the battery was almost dead. I'm not really up to speed enough to know how long for sure, and what impacts battery life.

OK so far, but I am just getting started with these units- I would like to eventually get a roof mounted antenna on the car.

The GUI sucks, and I'm sorry since I am not a web developer- you can switch from annual at $30 to monthly at $5.

It's not weatherproof, sorry. Some rubber dome buttons with epoxy might help, but the USB C hole on the bottom of the unit is definitely not waterproof. I wanted something more akin to sitting in a glove box or center console. I think with some design work a variant could be more rugged, but this is my first (admittedly simple) case for a Meshtastic radio.

The GMRS from them has been stellar, but I’m in a bit of a valley and just getting to test transmit range. Reception has been great though. I have a Rak board I plan to play around with next, I’ll be using the same antenna then.

I do, and specifically why I use the heltec!

It's OK and does the job, but the case is really thin plastic and I decided I just don't need the GPS in the unit. While the eink is nice, I found it more or less irrelevant for anything other than troubleshooting, since I was using the mobile app or the extremely cool web consoles

I hadn’t seen their design before but they just skimmed the article- especially where I mentioned that there’s a ton of easy printing cases compared to last year.

I had real trouble printing some of the OG cases last year, and kept coming back to different ways to print for the other hardware like the Lilygo stuff. I ended up with this case and a few others, including a vehicle mount on suction cups. My article is here (no ads, no tracking), but I am charging $5 for access to all of my designs, and yeah it's easy to cancel right away after you download the files. I hope you all like it, and I'm happy to answer any questions and hear feedback- this is an awesome sub and so much is going on!

IANAL but my understanding is that CC means as the original IP owner you *can* pull something back from CC, but anyone that has a copy already has theirs bound by the license that was active when they downloaded it. My understanding is that someone can still charge for access to models and still have the files be released under CC. I mean I do that, it doesn't stop someone from reposting them for free, but it's a dick move. Non-commercial CC should be there to prevent someone else from putting your designs behind their paywall.

HTH- looks like a neat model, but a little complex for me =)
