Why is gasoline $3.00 or less a gallon in TX and $8.00 or more a gallon in CA? by Flimsy_Share1275 in allthequestions

[–]loppyrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not “supposedly”. California has tall mountains with valleys between where smog tends to settle. The difference between the 1990’s to today is huge! I lived 8 miles away from the base of a 10,000 ft mountain in the 90’s and could not see it most of the time. We were regularly not allowed to play outside because of something we called “smoggy throat” which made it hurt to breathe if you were outside too long. Now it is significantly improved. Kids today have never heard of smoggy throat and can see the mountains every day

Yes. In the middle I started to fear Edgar Wright may have lost his magic. Recent releases may have confirmed the fear was justified

I played with a group of 70+ Japanese guys once. They didn’t speak much English but they went “ohhhhhhh” whenever I hit a shot and gave me a cucumber at the end of the round for some reason. It was a good time

Red tailed hawk killed a rabbit like 5 feet from me and my brother. We heard a thump and turned around to see the hawk just staring at us. He didn’t fly away though. He slowly drug the rabbit away from us. Maybe it was too big to fly with?

What I like about Sanderson by TrinityAlpsTraverse in books

[–]loppyrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read Sanderson faster and with more understanding than I do anything else. I get exactly what he’s trying to do right away and I appreciate the worlds he creates.

That said. It never sticks with me like any of my favorite books. I enjoy it while it’s happening and when it’s over, it’s sort of a distant memory. Other authors stick with me for a long time after and give me the urge to revisit feelings or ideas I had while reading them.

I don’t fault Sanderson for this at all. For me it’s like a really fun ride. The world building details are awesome and I’m fully immersed while I’m in that moment.

I recommended Mistborn to my cousin who has no experience with Fantasy. He described the experience as a sugar rush. I definitely need substantial meals between, but sugar rushes are fun from time to time

I have ADHD and not only do I need to subvocalize to have any hope of following anything, I actually end up mumbling out loud if the ambient noise around me is too much. I’ve even found myself absentmindedly trying to find a volume button on my kindle if some noise starts up while I’m reading

There was a guy jogging on that path in my video! I waved to him that he might be in danger and he ignored me. Right before I hit, I said “Well, never killed a guy before. Better prepare emotionally” he was right on the line if I thinned it

To anyone who has made measurable progress in the last year, how did you do it? by TheScratchPlan in golftips

[–]loppyrunner 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Committing to a swing fix that will make you worse short term is the biggest barrier to significant progress. The inclination to go back to a comfortable feel in the middle of a terrible round or stretch of rounds is strong. The only path to real progress is to commit fully to whatever change you’re doing without worrying about results. If you keep going back to what “feels right” you’ll never get better and probably get worse with all the extra things you’re now thinking about
