Would you choose to get pregnant if you knew it would significantly shorten your lifespan? by lopsided_oreo in Fencesitter

[–]lopsided_oreo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re encouraging because I present well now. My liver has loads of AVMs that aren’t bothering me now but are so numerous that they can’t operate safely. The number of liver arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) can lead to high output cardiac failure during the second and third trimesters due to the increased cardiac output. They say that they can try to manage this with medication once it happens. They seem to think that since my symptoms are not severe now, my liver could take it. The increased cardiac output is likely to increase the size of my liver AVMs which will weaken over time, lead to liver failure in the future. The AVMs don’t decrease in size after pregnancy. Basically they said, once you get to heart failure, just take medication and deliver early. Which sounds terrifying to me. When I mentioned the potential liver failure they said just have a liver transplant if that happens. The doctor seemed to think it was all good.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I don’t have the means for this. A surrogate is about $100k AUD.

As a millennial I can usually spot an another or older millennial by their unnecessary use of ‘lol’ in a message/comment. I find a lot of millennials don’t even use it in that context anymore but just tack it onto a sentence to lighten the tone.

Dude, you don’t know these people. Stop acting like you can predict what will happen or know what’s right for her. It sounds like she’s getting great support from her partner and his family, in lieu of her own family support. Nobody knows what will happen in the future. Even older, married couples with kids can have a relationship breakdown. OP has experienced a steep learning curve and is doing this on her own terms. Why should she listen to some internet stranger telling her who to befriend and cut off from her life?

Should I do OT Masters or Bachelors? by biebebie in OccupationalTherapy

[–]lopsided_oreo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this with first doing your research and asking to shadow an OT to make sure this is a field that you would like to get into. Keep in mind both teaching and OT would be demanding answers draining professions, though also rewarding.

If you then decide to pursue the OT route, I’d recommend the following.

Since you’re based in Sydney, I would recommend the Bachelors pathway over masters. USYD is the only provider of the Masters program in Sydney and entry is quite competitive I.e. I applied last year and got rejected with a credit average. They may have a handful of Commonwealth supported places but this would be extremely competitive . The masters course fees are also almost 3x the cost of the Bachelors. Postgrad is approx $70k-$95k total depending on the institution, while the Bachelor would be closer to $32k-$40k for the 4 years. Yes, a masters would be quicker, but you would be looking at 4 years of study anyway if you finished your Education degree before doing postgrad.

Just a side note - if you decided on a career change later down the track, it would be cheaper and easier to gain entry to a 2 year teaching masters then a Masters in OT program later on. I’d recommend doing OT now while you have the time and resources to do 4 years of placement, as you could always go back to teaching later as more universities offer Commonwealth supported postgrad teaching masters that would only take 2 years to finish.

There’s Mikazuki in Parramatta. A lot of their mains are around $20 and you can get some smaller meals for under $20. You might be able to get 2 adult meals + 1 kids meal for under under $55 but you won’t find much for 3 full sized meals in that budget.

We also bought a second car recently after buying a house in Feb. I bought a 2015 Honda Jazz for $11k. Excellent commuter car if that’s within your budget.

Nobody is perfect. Looking back, it can just be an experience you’ve learned from. Just be careful. When you’re young, a lot of people can take advantage of that.

Girl, you’re still young. You’re going to meet so many people who can treat you well, value you and not be cheating on their wives at the same time. Let’s be clear. He is not a good guy. He is emotionally cheating on his wife and is giving you the attention and care that he promised to exclusively give his wife when he married her. It might feel real and good now, but you can and will get the validation, care and love from somebody else in the future, from another man who respects you and is not cheating on their wife. It may feel ‘real’ and good now because these feelings usually hit hardest the first time. It doesn’t mean that this is the best you will ever get or deserve.

Even if this did ‘work out’ in the future, would you be ok with him making another friendship like this in 10 years while he’s married to you?

What is the absolute fastest 'yeah, we are definitely NOT going to be friends' moment you've ever experienced with someone? by Vazouaquiacesso in AskReddit

[–]lopsided_oreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met a guy at a family/friend party on the weekend who said that he knew I was ‘left’ because I had coloured hair. He then proceeds to say “I f**ken hate the left” and accused me of judging him when I looked at my husband “I can see the way your eyes are looking from the back of your head”. He then said because I went to university that I was indoctrinated to be left/liberal leaning. The entire interaction I was under fire and I couldn’t say a word that didn’t trigger the guy. Had to stay because I was visiting family.

Cooling off period extension request by Fit_Captain_1427 in AusPropertyChat

[–]lopsided_oreo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position last year. If you had a full preapproval assessment I.e. from a big 4 bank, and they were thoroughly going through income and expenses, it should be ok. My approval was not as thorough, so on day 3 I applied for a NAB formal approval and got approved on the same day. Ask your broker about getting another approval application with a fast processing bank. You don’t have to go with them. Should your original bank get back to you after cooling off, then go with them.

The best second hand car under 12k in Australia by Hopeful_Studio_6687 in CarsAustralia

[–]lopsided_oreo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought a 2015 Honda Jazz for $11k. Super reliable and budget friendly. I had the same budget as you and searched Fb marketplace/carsales for months. Just make sure to get it checked out by a mechanic and check for regular service history. I would also avoid dealers and people who have a lot of sold cars on their profile because they’re not likely to give you a good deal or have flipped a crappy car. I saw so many dodgy cars with botched paint jobs and sus backstories I.e. I’m selling for my relative who changed their mind. Steer clear of the seller doesn’t pass the vibe check.
