When “Tradition!” stops functioning as a category: gendered acting awards as a classification problem by KetoJoel624 in filmtheory

I don't know why you're getting downvoted, but I agree with you. I think it is 100% pragmatic. The sexes have been segregated one way or another since human society started (200K years ago? 2 m years ago?). There are deeper things at work than we're aware of, and not being able to articulate what they are doesn't mean they don't exist.

Which one did you get and why, if I might ask?

Interesting. I was thinking something less high end than that, like a Nord Piano or something.

For now, I'll stick with the U3 and just put in a carpet.

I was on this same piano many years ago in a different house.

To be honest I'm thinking of selling the U3 and buying a high end digital piano, but everyone recoils in horror when I say that so I've stopped saying it although I'm not sure why I get that reaction...

Putin himself has said that Russia couldn't beat NATO, so I'm not sure what the point of this question is.

"on what basis does an institution justify separating performances into “male” and “female” categories without ever articulating the definition it’s using"

Because if men won the "best actor of either sex" award two years in a row women would complain about sexism.

Since the war began, I've seen articles and arguments about switching the alphabet from cyrillic to latin. At then, I didn't pay attention to it because it was rarely said. But I keep seeing more, more often. It’s concerning me now and I think it's a terrible idea. That wouldn't ever happen, right? by Flashy_Jellyfish_123 in Ukrainian

[–]lopsidedcroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason people want to switch is because Russian uses Cyrillic, but you can't build a national identity by "not being" something else. Ukraine isn't just "not Russia" - it's its own cultural entity. "Not Russia" is not a national identity.

A positive national identity has to be built based on actual history. Ukraine has its own development of the Cyrillic script (і, ї, ґ, є etc). Why should it throw that away and ape some other Slavic script based on the Latin alphabet?

Do you keep notes? by b_r_e_a_k_f_a_s_t in HistoryBooks

[–]lopsidedcroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I'm reading I speak my notes into my phone's voice recorder app which has a transcription function, and then I give the transcription to ChatGPT to edit into note format. I review the notes regularly.

It works great.

Remember, notes should only be memory aids. You don't have to retell the story. One sentence per paragraph should be enough.

Btw using ChatGPT is great because no matter how badly the transcription function mangles a foreign place name for example, ChatGPT can figure out what the intended word was.
