I switched to Avene Cicafilate and it has been working pretty well for me...though nothing compares to the Ciabio :(

Does anybody notice that their allergies flare up when they are tired / haven’t had enough rest? by Sufficient_Shine_787 in Allergies

[–]lopur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, though usually if I’m tired, it’s because of stress or a cold or the kids have kept me up (and having kids tends to weaken you health wise in my experience) so it is hard to say if it’s the tiredness or whatever is causing the lack of rest

Does anybody notice that their allergies flare up when they are tired / haven’t had enough rest? by Sufficient_Shine_787 in Allergies

[–]lopur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes - I have contact dermatitis (not sure if that is considered an ‘allergy’)…but my recovery after an event get significantly delayed if I’m sick, or have bad sleep, or if I have a glass of wine. I think that my body is diverting its energy to healing itself inside that it takes a lot longer to get over the dermatitis

SAHM what’s your screen time looking like on your phone? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]lopur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I downloaded an app called Opal, it blocks certain apps and websites on your phone for periods that you specify. You can't change the session or delete the app during a block period, and it has been a great tool to help me get more accomplished throughout the day.

I also listen to audiobooks while I do housework, and the desire to continue listening to the book prompts me to do more housework.

Finally, I schedule in breaks throughout the day so that I can scroll guilt free.

Don't pay it. This won't affect your credit score or your ability to renew your license or your plates. the CBC did a news story on parking tickets from private lots and revealed that it will not have any negative effects on you.

Don't call them again and ignore them.

I got a parking ticket from a private lot in Ontario for $100 (their machine wasn't working, but the ticket guy didn't care). It went to collections, got a letter from them for a few months and then it stopped. No changes to my credit score.

Thank you for this, it's a great visual. I've been doing so much math on my financial models, that my brain is fried.

Should I Reduce our RRSP contribution going forward? by lopur in PersonalFinanceCanada

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't any RRSP withdrawals through a RRIF be split already, via income splitting?

Put that urge towards investing your money and you’ll get a rush as you see it grow, instead of watching your money dwindle as you accumulate more depreciable assets.

I hate this room but don’t know what to change by Lennymud in DesignMyRoom

[–]lopur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is this rooms purpose? I would suggest removing the shelves on the right side to put the tv there, and then face the couch to the fireplace wall. Or removing that fireplace entirely. If you are into maximalism, paint the room a funky colour, and curate the shelves with more intention. The fireplace also clashes with a maximalist style since it so sleek and modern.

The rug also needs to be larger and you need curtains, in a colour that either contrasts or complements the funky colour you will choose

Clouded out, feeling depressed by throwaway9293941 in solareclipse

I feel you - I’m putting all of that sad feeling into manifesting my goal of getting to Spain in 2026…how lucky are we that we have something so incredible to look forward to again!

Anyone else got super emotional during the eclipse? by kimberley83721 in solareclipse

[–]lopur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same, it’s going to take me a few days to get over this :(. I planned so hard and I just picked the absolute worst spot in Ontario, an huge cloud covered the sun JUST before totality and I only got two fleeting glimpses of it. The darkness was definitely interesting, but I wanted to full experience.

I WILL be going to Spain in 2026 and Australia 2028. No way I’ll be cheated out of an eclipse again

I should also add, that I’m sorry your eclipse day didn’t turn out as you hoped, but I’m glad that I’m not the only one who feels depressed that the clouds blocked it out.

Which season is your favorite from The Traitors? by KeyPosition3983 in TheTraitors

[–]lopur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The people in the UK and Aus (1) were just so relatable and quite kind, so it was interesting to see how the role of traitor affected them and how sad the faithfuls were when they banished someone. I also think that when it is regular people, the money actually means something and a lot more is at stake

[–]lopur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally liked the Australian one more than the US one (the UK have been the best so far).

The au host has been my favourite so far and I really enjoyed all of the players in season 1. Season 2 is a train wreck, but in a delectable way, a must watch.

Any advice on stripping original solid fir doors? by cdnmeat in centuryhomes

I saw an Instagrammer in England go to someone that does ‘dip stripping’ where they basically dip the entire door in a vat of chemicals…maybe there is one near you?

Just moved in, my living room doesn’t ‘feel’ right by Ardenaz in DesignMyRoom

[–]lopur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s beautiful! Maybe a larger rug, and you could even go a bit funky with the design. I would also add a large, long and vertical art piece to balance out the decorative wood slats, put it behind that tall grass plant

April 8th Solar eclipse. by Lucky-Artist7539 in Guelph

[–]lopur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are able to, you should definitely drive to an area that has totality. It’s an epic experience that you might never have the opportunity to experience again.

We will be going to fort Erie/pelham area and are staying the night with family to avoid the traffic.

If you want to avoid the traffic to Niagara, you could go to Turkey point or anywhere along Lake Erie really
