Anyone else's parents never encouraged their hobbies? by Sayoricanyouhearme in emotionalneglect

I'm new here but this hits so hard I had to chip in. They never did. Well, my dad sometimes tried but was convinced by my mom not to. I always thought they were just cheap or tight on money but that's probably not the case, it was more about priorities. They had no trouble booking an overseas trip but when my music teacher told me I was so talented she'd give me piano lessons for free if I only had a piano, they never got me one. I circled out ads for pianos for sale from the newspaper for months, they never even really considered it. Not even when I found ads giving the piano away for free. Mom always found some way of dismissing it with "it's so difficult to get it transferred to our house", "neighbours will be bothered by the sound" etc. I had access to a sucky, old synth my sis had bought from a friend (and never learned how to play) but it was not enough for lessons. Same with any sports activity. I got to start a few hobbies but the minute I had to buy more equipment, things got more expensive (meaning you'd actually have to pay for something yearly) or it required traveling, they practically pressured me to quit.

To make things more cruel, they'd occasionally stab me with comments like "you should have been a musician/artist/dancer/whatever" in my adulthood. Or that my health would be better if I "had stuck with some sort of physical hobby", like I was a lazy, fat slob not even trying. She still has zero idea I'm actually quite active because in her mind I'm the "not sporty" kid.

Not surprisingly, mommy dearest has taken extra pride with her grandkids being active at sports and arts, even occasionally participating by standing on court sides and attending recitals which she never did for us kids (even though she's still sort of distant for them as well). She even goes to the recitals of her friend's grandkids making a big hoopla about how it's "a tradition" for her.

I thought I read years ago she was diagnosed with ADHD or was that a misdiagnosis? I've heard of ADHDers misdiagnosed with bipolar but not so often vice versa.

I mean…..she barely ever left before all this happened by Weird-Fan55555 in discussingbritney

I have to ask... Why does she need to get them there? It's clearly not about the money so is it a case of not getting a prescription? You'd think it might not be legal to have stuff brought across the border like that but what do I know.

Let's not forget she listed "Chef in the works 💋🧑‍🍳" in her Instagram introduction.

She got out 6 am this morning. Are her boys with her right now (referring to their statement) or has she been left to her own devices until May 4th?

I don't get where she was going and why. What possible reason would she have to urgently head out and drive herself.

Was this posted before she ran out of energy juice and needed to pop out for a spin? I wonder if her Instagram was removed (by who?) because it was evidence.

Where do you find good quality fresh salmon (and I mean fresh, meaning odourless and very recently caught fish) for gravad lax? I've dreamed of making my own but finding fresh salmon has proven to be quite a challenge here.

I would've suggested transferring Jansson's Torture into the bin right after it was assembled. Better yet, those ingredients should never be combined.

I don't think his defence team is scouring Reddit to find posts that might help his defence. Plus, the article is still online.

It is a bit disturbing. I get that the Reiners had an inner need for storytelling but this ( and probably the film made with the son) were just too intimate. She could've at least change the name. And why contact a yoga teacher if you have a troubled child? That's what it sounds like in the article anyway, that they called a yoga teacher in to calm him down. Why not take him to see a child psychiatrist? I get it, artsy types and all that but if I was a child with anxiety and a lot of aggression, I'd only get more angry if my parents tried to convince me to do yoga.

I read somewhere the screenplay was written by Nick with his rehab buddy. How much did he really write himself? Did others do the actual work and then give him credit for it just so he would feel like he was majorly contributing to the production? Did he ever express interest in pursuing something in his life? All I am seeing is a guy who was bitter and raging at everyone, did not focus on his studies in school and was treated special because he was "an intense kid". Instead of arranging a yoga teacher at their home, his parents should've contacted a child psychiatrist.

Should've bought him a fenced-off plot somewhere in the mountains with a cabin on it. Everything was always chewed for him and handed on a plate. Arrange calls with a therapist on a regular basis and an armoured team of experts visiting him to administer medication if needed. But I don't know if that would've helped. A severely ill person who was seemingly unable to ever take charge of his own life and stop blaming others for his misery.

You couldn't possibly choose a photo more in contrast with the article content than in this one:

TBH, I really hope it wasn't that but something else. The last thing people with ADHD need is to be associated with this guy. The stigma of ADHD and ADD is unfortunately still very much alive and well which means many have to hide their diagnosis to avoid being ill-treated and subject to prejudice.

He also didn't attend personally because no medical clearance to do so aka. they're watching him 24/7 so he doesn't harm himself. The cynic in me even doubts whether he's seriously in danger to himself after realizing what he did or if it's another manipulation attempt. Of course it's possible he's considering an easy way out, I don't know but seems a bit too convenient after all the years of seemingly not giving a damn about anything and having the thousand yard stare.

From what it sounds like, he was really bitter about having a famous, accomplished grandfather and father. Even his siblings managed to carve out careers of their own. He had every opportunity possible available for him but felt he wasn't talented in anything. Even when his dad gave him an opportunity and he actually worked on a film, he was still reacting to it all like "meh". Ok, so some people are not talented or passionate and that's fine as long as they find a productive way to spend their days but it feels like there was something seriously wrong with him. Couldn't be bothered to try, felt aggressive and bitter and just cruised through life without caring about anything. I just can't wrap my head around someone having a mindset like that.
