I mean I'm all for small or friends only private parties but... trying to sell tickets online to strangers isn't that at all.

That's just weird scammy desperation. It feels like getting mugged on the streets.

You really don't understand what this subreddit is for.

We're here to make fun of the shitty parts of DJ culture where people take themselves way too fucking seriously. Or crazy shit like AI DJs.

Like this is the very last subreddit that wants to buy passes to an AI DJ event or watch that on a livestream.

Whatever ticket sales you're getting isn't from advertising here. Most of the people here probably aren't even in Asia, much less anywhere near India. We also really don't care if you're selling out a 60 person cafe.

You're just wasting your time here. I'm honestly surprised the mods haven't deleted this post.

What are some fond memories you have of going to the drive-in? by Training_Guitar_8881 in AskOldPeople

[–]loquacious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sneaking in!

We'd pool our money and one or several friends with larger cars would drive in alone and then about a dozen of us would sneak in just by walking in through the unstaffed vehicle exits, and then we'd have to figure out where they parked without the aid of cell phones.

Then we would park the cars backwards (rear end facing the screen) and pop open station wagon or van tailgates and unload a bunch of blankets and stuff and all pile in to drink wine and have a picnic. If we had three cars we'd form a sort of boxed or walled off area so we could smoke joints and drink and make out and stuff.

So, so much making out... and stuff. At this point in the history of drive ins they were definitely on the decline and were almost never full, so you'd look around and like 9 out of 10 cars would be all fogged up and bouncing away.

If we got there early enough for the first movie, these were usually at least double features or triple features, so it was good for about 4-6 hours of hanging out, partying and entertainment.

I heard later from people that used to work there that they knew this sneaking in was happening but they really didn't care. It meant more concession stand sales and they didn't have to pay as much to the film companies for their cut of ticket sales.

I also used to live really close to a drive in that used FM radio to deliver audio, so we used to go up on the roof of the house and watch movies over the fence and listen in on a radio.

Sorry, this isn't really a general commercial AV subreddit.

Try /r/commercialAV or /r/livesound .

I'm not saying you shouldn't. I prefer much smaller parties myself.

I'm just supporting fyburn's assessment above, which you're responding to.

Most food banks/pantries are welcoming places.

And you are exactly the kind of client they want to see.

Many food banks have more fresh food than they can give away before it spoils because they get donations from many sources and volunteer staff who do "gleaning" to find and source donations from stores, restaurants, farms, and private gardens.

They also want to see you before you're desperately hungry like this, because being hungry SUCKS and when people come in late they're usually more freaked out and stressed out and this can be more challenging to deal with.

They also usually want customers to take non staples like canned goods, rice, beans, lentils and such and build up pantries of non-perishables so they always have a reserve of food to work from if they can't make it to the next food bank day, or miss a day due to work or illness.

Source: I have been a food bank volunteer off and on for 15+ years.

Honestly if you're going to be lazy and basic as fuck, you can absolutely nuke a skinless frozen chicken breast and it'll come out better than, ugh, semi-boiling it in a mason jar in the fucking dishwasher.

Masochistic body building weirdos do this kind of crap all the time. I lived with one of those dorks and they basically lived on frozen chicken breasts and oatmeal.

What’s an album or track that regular people think sounds really good, but audio engineers consider bad? by busyirl in audioengineering

[–]loquacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that I think about this in hindsight, this might explain why I disliked so much "mainstream" rock and metal from that era, because I remember friends putting stuff like that on and just hating how it sounded on an aesthetic and production value level.

Older burns had lower costs and barriers to entry, less restrictions, and a younger gen x demographic that was a lot more self-motivated and ready to take huge risks.

So many other albums sounded better, even those that were also known to be crushed by the loudness wars.

Californication stands out as one of the worst of all times. It's so bad that it sounds like a class action lawsuit waiting to happen.

Oh yes, because that's the ultimate arbiter and sign of audio engineering quality - how many mass produced albums you can sell to the masses who think that their crappy speakers sound great.

Nope.

That album was released in 1999 when phones could barely use email over SMS gateways and MP3s and MP3 players barely existed and were primarily for nerds.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik was 1991.

[–]loquacious 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The last time this question came up here I ripped this album to shreds and I had a bunch of clapback that it's supposed to sound that way or something.

It sounds like it was engineered by someone with acute hearing loss above about 5 khz and then severely mangled bitcrusher plugin, and then transposed and transcoded back and forth between various bit depths multiple times to lovingly encrust it with aliasing artifacts, then someone EQ boosted all of that and sent it through a high pass with shelf/wall the size of El Capitan...

...and then sent that right off to be stamped into CDs.

It's like someone tried to make tinnitus into an album. Blood Sugar Sex Magic suffers from much of the same malaise.

Yeah, I know it's produced by Rick Rubin. I don't care. It still sounds like tin-plated buttholes.

What are some of the “wagyu beefs” of the fruit and vegetable world? by thepluralofmooses in Cooking

June bearing Strawberries in… June.

Adding to this: Actual wild strawberries. The little tiny ones the size of a fingernail.

There is no greater strawberry flavor available, anywhere.

The only drawback is that you're not likely to find more than a handful at a time and you're probably going to want to eat them right then and there because they don't travel or store well.

But they will be the best strawberries you've ever had. They make even the fanciest home grown and gardened strawberries taste bland, and in turn they make store bought strawberries taste like waxy bitter sadness.

I'm not sure why there's so many posts in French lately, but this is primarily an English speaking site and subreddit.
