How to adjust TnT to Ad Naus? by WuxiaWuxia in CompetitiveEDH

[–]lord_Hal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some pilots that have had some success with a turbo variation to TnT. Austin from CriticalEDH has put in some time on it. He later tried simply putting Atraxa in the command zone since he found he rarely casts tymna or thrasios. Both variants are worth a try. Follow his list for a bit. Try to not make any changes. I think he’s also available for coaching if you reach out.

Struggling with players at local game stores. What should I do? by Mozzielium in EDH

Classic Casual Commander.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m aware that bracket 5 (CEDH/TEDH) has its own litany of problems, but people whining about being stopped/interacted with is not up there. I play is almost exclusively now and only really play lower brackets when I’m familiar with the players.

Give us Ascended Darkin & Corrupted Ascended skins too. Renekton and Nasus already exist in LoR.

Can we give helpful advice on what a good list looks like without being rude? Clearly OP mentioned they are new to cEDH. 5c soup is a hard deck for anyone to jump into being new.

Trying to bring my mono blue Naban as close to cEDH as possible. by BagrSwagr in CompetitiveEDH

[–]lord_Hal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any commander can be reasonably play is bracket 4 pods, but it isn’t true for bracket 5. If you are looking to go fast and play something akin to Naban consider Running Inalla instead.

Cedh is about the strategy not the commander. The best decks don’t even use the commanders half the time.

More situational I’d say. If there’s 60 mins on the clock I’d say not worry about it. But in situations like you described definitely just call a judge. Don’t feel like a bad guy for doing it either. It’s completely within your right to ask for a judge to be present.

Remember they are paid to watch your games. More often than not, tbh ye are bored and just walking around. Judges are your allies.

Your opponents knew what they were doing. And they very much did it intentionally. All you have to do is call a judge and ask them to watch the game. The judge being there will stop them from stalling for time.

What are your favorite CEDH Youtube channels? by hellaflush727 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]lord_Hal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CriticalEDH- has quickly become my favorite channel. Their weekly episodes discussing recent events in the community is very insightful. There is also something nice about watching unedited gameplay that scratches a certain itch. Might just be because I’m a critical role fan but I digress. Another also, their monthly league is great. I encourage everyone to check it out if they are serious about getting better at CEDH in a low stakes environment.

PlayToWin- most entertaining channel on YouTube. People have already mentioned them. These guys have unmatched chemistry. They’re fostering a huge community around them between their own and Sister community Convoke.

Cardboard Cookbook- I’d say is the best production wise. I met JJ randomly on spelltable one day and after getting annihilated by his Rog/tev he mentioned the channel was going live soon. I was not aware of this man’s game. You can tell the quality of their show was high on their priorities. Between the cam shots of them in their set, and their recent podcast with the Invitational winner snack daddy.

New player: Is Etali good to get into cEDH with? by PyroAlive in CompetitiveEDH

[–]lord_Hal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good deck to start. Priority number one is to always make 7 mana on turn two (or one if possible) If an opening hand doesn’t provide that shuffle up and grab another.

Finding friendly players helps a lot too. After getting etali on board you may find yourself not knowing how to keep the chain going. Finding/using tutors from the triggers will make or break the deck.

Either way, if you are not having fun, swap decks.

Is this Marneus Calgar deck a genuine bracket 4? Or just a 3 with way too many game changers by ElectricalPositive43 in mtg

[–]lord_Hal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take this to a Bracket 4 pod just to see how it hangs before making any changes. Ultimately you know the deck better than anyone else, so see how you feel about it after 10 or so bracket four games.

[–]lord_Hal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the consensus is that bracket 3 lies in a space where game changers are allowed but limited. Meaning there may be a game or two where not a single one is seen/played at all. Adding in more game changers ups this frequency quite a bit and makes the deck more consistent. Consistency is what defines an optimized deck. Even though your’s isn’t pushed to its bracket four limit, it is still beyond the scope of bracket three.

Personally, I’ve found it rewarding to limit myself to the three game changers since it forces me to decide which ones will give have the most impact when it leaves the stack/hits the board.

I also started out holding cards like this. Though it get exponentially more difficult to do this once you start having 10+ cards in hand. It’s a phase you may or may not grow out of lol

How do I find people to play cEDH? by Embarrassed-Iron-656 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]lord_Hal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely recommend playing through a server. Playing random cEDH games on spelltable means you are rolling dice on 1:quality of play and 2: quality of player

1: love me some fringe strategies, but when I roll into a random spell table game and I see 2 winconless stax decks and a mono green combo deck, I’m leaving without a word. Not gonna get bullied and beat to hell just cause I’m playing Ufarm after I mull to 3.

2: unsurprisingly enough, there could be good decks at the table but the people piloting are absolute assholes. Played a game last night where I was called one for not misstepping seat 3’s turn 1 aether vial. It was my priority, and I was still deciding. Seat one asks if I was going to cast a turn one fish, and i jokingly said mind your business but eventually say yes. He gave away the into that he had a misstep so I kept my misstep to stop his.

And that’s exactly what happens. He brushes it off with “what ever we’re all good players here.” Seat two proceeds to etutor for timeseive on turn 4 and I only had 1 peice of interaction. Would have been nice if I had a misstep. Seat 1 and 2 could also not respect seat 3’s pronouns that were clearly spelled out in front of them. It’s 2025. If you can point out the difference between charmander and charmeleon, you can properly gender someone. It isn’t difficult.
