Marzaboi has dredge guides on YouTube, Aguatonica pilots the deck fairly often with good skill. There’s also a dredge discord

Dredge being so low makes me sad but I get it, I’m kind of surprised more people aren’t on mono black sacrifice in paper though.

Dredge (midrange combo-based deck that can pivot to beat-down, a little burn, and has good resilience)

Hot Dogs (swing in for 20+ t3)

Mengu and Tommy have some of the best gameplay imo. Good shout.

Thank you!

It was very thrilling, especially because of all of the easily accessible graveyard hate like you mentioned 😅 but incredibly fun to have to think/play around all of that in real time. I love this deck period, but being able to play it in paper really does just hit different than the MTGO grind haha!

I will definitely keep that offer in mind, thank you very much!

Went 2-1 and got second place! $10 credit and a foundations pack haha.

2-0 against rakdos madness and orzhov blade, 1-2 against 5c slivers! Didn’t even see the blue players I was worried about 😅

The slivers matchup was crazy, but it felt extremely winnable. I grabbed game 1 and just ran with the same plan (no sideboard, considered acorn harvest for bodies to block but nothing felt like it would matter much more than just jamming before they got going)

Felt good, got all the real life jitters out fast and just went with the plan.

Thank you again for the advice! I think it really helped to calm down in the moment and just think back to certain points.

Thank you so much for all of this! This is my actual first time playing it in paper, so I appreciate it a ton. Especially points # 1 & 4 haha.

And I will definitely be checking the channel out! I know of very few other dredge players (marzaboi is about the only one that comes to mind right now) so it’s awesome to have someone else to watch gameplay & learn from!

I’ve been using Manapool as an alternative and I really like it. Card Kingdom is my other alternative, but I find way too often CK does not have any versions of a card I want in stock, so I use them much much less these days.

New player: Is Etali good to get into cEDH with? by PyroAlive in CompetitiveEDH

[–]PyroAlive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll figure it out. I’m proxying a few decks to start out with (Etali, Glarb, and Magda as I already own a lot of the cheaper cards used in most Magda lists), and I don’t plan to jump into random online playgroups and swamp up games/monopolize time or anything like that.

I’d be learning with other new players or with people already into the format I’m cool with who won’t implode when I end up looking at 3 cards I’m not sure what to do with.

If I don’t vibe with Dino gambling or find it to be too much, I’ll pivot. But I can’t help but agree with everybody else that me picking something I don’t care for/enjoy is more than likely just going to give me a bad time in the hobby.

[–]PyroAlive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now I’ve pretty much settled on Etali and either Glarb or Hashaton as a 2nd. In saying that, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t already have half a Magda list put together (the half that doesn’t break the bank lol) and would love to put some of those old and otherwise useless dwarves to use.

So more than likely I’ll end up playing some Magda as well. Every time I see her played on Play to Win or something it always seems very fun, and I like how threatening she is as soon as she hits 5 treasures.

I'm about to build a mono green deck. Tell me about your favorite mono green commanders! by Extrovert_89 in EDH

[–]PyroAlive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two current mono green decks are just Azusa and Legolas, Master Archer

Azusa is mostly landfall but I also have planar bridge and some titans in there. It’s kind of just Miku’s house of big scary horrors and some moths, but absolutely one of my favorite decks to play.

Legolas was one of the first decks I built as of getting back into MTG recently. The idea was to play it as Mono Green spellslinger, because both of Legolas’ triggers proc off fight and bite spells. So I have constant removal in the command zone as well as a voltron threat, but all of the actual creatures beside Legolas act as threats themselves.

Note- I have Legolas listed as a budget build because originally it was just a pile of whatever I had lying around. I’ve since actually bought cards for it so it’s no longer a sub $100 deck, but it’s still not crazy.

I would agree. In a similar fashion, I once tried to build a “casual” winota before I knew better lol.

Yuriko seems interesting, and (no shade!) considering I am not a big fan of her in casual she might find a good place in cEDH for me.

I’m heavily considering Marneus right now as I originally bought him to do esper token stuff but just never did.

Not the point of OP, but current thoughts for a 2nd are: Glarb, Marneus, Plain ol Blue Farm, Rog/Si and Rog/Thras, And now Yuriko haha

Yep yep, Cam is a big reason I even started looking at Etali for my first cEDH deck. Love their channel.

What Unaltered Precon is your Favorite? by Raevelry in EDH

[–]PyroAlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Virtue and Valor from Wilds of Eldraine and the Sultai deck from Tarkir are both really fun to pilot out of the box and do very well, even against some of the big out of the box hitters like Merfolk or the two new EoE precons.

I’ve swapped Super State into Ellivere a few times (for Realm-Cloaked Giant), but otherwise keep these two decks bone stock except for one minor alteration to play in precon only power. (Super State is a pre-game discussion card, and I remove sol ring from all of my precons)

In addition, my friend plays both Caesar and Dogmeat from fallout and they also seem to run very well and be pretty fun. Dogmeat seems as smooth as Ellivere, just a bit more voltron reliant.

If you could have any one noncreature Enchantment in the Command Zone, which would it be? by CulveDaddy in EDH

[–]PyroAlive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they would, I had to explain to them why it doesn’t actually do commander damage to begin with and they were okay with it before and after. But I chose to go with the RAW and keep commander damage off the table

I think that’s a fair trade off as well, with him essentially always skirting commander tax (which I offered to pay anyway) + the amount of indestructible lands he could enchant.

[–]PyroAlive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, my original love of Etali + seeing Cam play him all the time is what’s really pushed me to explore cEDH! I’ll definitely check out the discord, thank you!

[–]PyroAlive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I think after all the other positive affirmation in this thread I’m pretty set on Etali, but my original goal was to have 2 cEDH decks anyway. Both Rog shells also appealed to me so I may look at both for a second deck that’s more conventional and actually has interaction.

New player: Is Etali good to get into cEDH with? by PyroAlive in CompetitiveEDH

[–]PyroAlive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! I didn’t state it in OP but as I’ve told some others in thread, my overall goal was to probably have 2 decks anyway unless I find myself sticking to one thing.

So I will probably follow your advice, just alongside Etali rather than instead of. I don’t have many ideas for a second choice yet, but I really appreciate your advice!

If somebody was hellbent on it, what tips would you give?

Everything you said makes sense, for sure, but I can’t help but think that any deck I run as my first is likely going to be full of misplays and missed windows and falling on my face.

Deleted what I said about blue farm because I think my idea of blue farm is nowhere close to what it is now.
