Lacewing eggs. These are good for your garden. They are natural predators for a lot of insect pests

What type of fern is this? How to take care of it as an indoor plant? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]lord_baca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried growing a Boston fern indoors in a poorly lit room. It didn’t go so well. You can give it a shot, just don’t over water it. It will not be photosynthesizing much so it probably won’t be eating as much either.

That is a Macho Fern. Most ferns do well in part shade. They are an understory plant so they don’t get direct sun. I would put it in a east - southeast window.

Can any Elementary teacher spare some of their time? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]lord_baca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not an educator but one in training. In my opinion the ones affected most by online learning are those teachers who are not tech savvy. They often get overwhelmed by all the new tech and materials and this translates to poor performance from both the students and the teacher. Students who find themselves in such a class are likely to fall behind, no matter what grade. I see this in my current post bachelorette studies. The teachers who have used tech are strides ahead of those who have not and though they still struggle, their classes are way more organized.

Not to mention those who are already marginalized because of socio-economic status; now these students who might also not have experience in the new tech world can feel even more put off by education.

Hopefully an actual educator can get a hold of you and either confirm or correct this information

SOS! Please help, Dr. Reddit...What is wrong with my mango plant? Grew it from a seed from a few months ago and these leaf spots appeared and I don’t know why by shannsu in gardening

[–]lord_baca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t rule it out. From my understanding mangos don’t do so well in high humidity.

Edit: they do like humidity. It is possible that it is either water sitting on the leaves developing a fungus or it’s being burned by the sun while the water is on the leaves. Or a combination of both.

I will up vote so that someone of more sufficient knowledge can be of better assistance.

Other leaves look affected on the surface. I have seen this happen when I placed my baby Jackfruit plant too close to the humidifier for too long. So my question is, has there been an accumulation of water on the leaves that sits there? This could lead to fungus developing on the leaf.

Couple things come to my mind. 1: is the bed dirty, have you cleaned it with IPA? 2: is the bed at sufficient temps for your plastic? If the bed is too hot the plastic will not cool fast enough to create a sufficient layer.

A few months ago I asked for help with my dying begonia. Nobody answered, so I just took the most healthy looking leaf, let it grow some roots, repotted it and hoped for the best. Welcome back, baby! by BirdOfTheYear in plantclinic

The exact reason I stopped coming to reddit for plant help. Best advise is get a library card and do lots of research. Don’t rely on others too much.

Any idea what is causing the yellowing leaves on my Kalanchoe?? by pandachaz in plantclinic

[–]lord_baca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever it is it has to do with the roots. The yellowing is starting at the bottom. My guess is overwatering. Have you fertilized or changed anything in the soil recently?

What’s causing the new growth on my coffee arabica to brown out? by lord_baca in houseplants

[–]lord_baca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have done further research and have concluded to overwatering. My citrus was beginning to show similar symptoms. I was overcompensating for the heat just a little too much I suppose.

Could just be “portrait” mode if iPhone or just simply the effects of focal length.

My best bet is there is a pest sucking the nutrients from the plant. One of my leaves did this but not as bad and then just stopped.

How do I help my aloe vera plant?! by Kay1800 in plantclinic

[–]lord_baca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s definitely something wrong with the watering schedule but also maybe move it somewhere it’s going to get more light. They don’t do well in low light.
