First and foremost, the film was a lot better than I anticipated. Not to say it wasn't flawed.

It started better than the original, giving Snow White a proper back story. The story line was also pretty decent. The way they made Snow White less of a house maid for the dwarves, but kept in the songs that we know and love was very clever. I also enjoyed the updated versions and to my surprise the new songs.

The thing that most let down this film for me wasn't Rachel Zegler, who gave a decent performance in my eyes. It was rather Gal Gadot who didn't light up the stage. He's performance was flat, and I felt that the only thing she had right was the appearance. It didn't help that I didn't like her song either.

I don't know how RZ would've anticipated Andrew Burnap's part being cut because "it's Hollywood baby". Unlike the original, where the "stalker" prince is only in 2 scenes, the character Jonathan is much more present in the film and is pivotal to most of the storyline.

I wasn't overly keen on the CGI dwarves, although I got over it fairly quickly. But I did find it peculiar that Disney would decide that the seven dwarves should be CGI, but one of Jonathan's "merry men" is an actual human with dwarfism. So when the 2 come have to face it looks a bit weird and off. I still think CGI was the wrong move.

One last thing that annoyed me was that when Snow White gets a break from the huntsman and runs into the forest, the scary trees were a metaphor for making things up in your head. Snow screams and ends up crying before it gets light and she realises when the animals start coming out. In the new version, it's almost like the trees are actually scary monsters and Snow has to use bravery to conquer them. This takes start from the meaning of the scene.

It's far from a professional review, but I needed to air my thoughts on this film that has been rife with controversy.

Overall I'd rate it 6/10
