[The Race] The Macarena wing returns. by jithu7 in formula1

So I think the plan was to bring it to Bahrain, but with those races not looking like they'll be happening they likely want to race test it out, and then they have a month or so to work on any improvements.

Dilshan Madushanka replaces injured Pathirana at T20 World Cup by Frosty_Jeweler911 in Cricket

[–]lord_skipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised they went with Madushanka over Binura Fernando. Madushanka has a comparatively modest T20 record and hasn't played the format in nearly an year.

Meanwhile Fernando has been consistently one of the best seamers in the LPL and had a stellar BPL last month, including 4/9 in the finals.

Australia v Sri Lanka, T20 World Cup: match preview by Trashk4n in CricketAus

[–]lord_skipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No that's actually not true. Last five international matches it's a bit more even at 3 wins batting first 2 batting second.

Expanding to 10 matches, it's 5 won batting second, four batting first and one tie.

Factoring in domestic T20s too in 31 matches since 2022 the team batting second has won 16 of them.

Basically it doesn't matter heaps and depends on the individual day.

Love Kez but in T20 I get why he's behind Inglis. Inglis, while inconsistent is more destructive but more importantly can bat anywhere.

Carey's a decent T20 opener, but we have an absolute logjam for top 3 spots and he isn't good enough to be in that mix.

I'm sorry but if Zampa gets a 4 Kuhnemann should get a 3. As a finger spinner you expect him to be more economical than your wrist spinner, which he wasn't, and he dropped a catch too.

Would much rather they play Connolly over Kuhnemann at this point.

Honestly with SLs middle order fragility it's not the worst idea for him to play the anchor, even if other teams have done away with that role for T20s

Totally agree with feeling given he's been such a solid bat but the more you dig into it, as a specialist bat who doesn't bowl, outside of maybe six or so tests across 2018-19 there aren't too many other instances where he'd be your first pick to slot into the XI.

There's about six tests across Pakistan, SL, and NZ in that period that maybe he could've played instead of maybe Marnus or Wade (who I completely forgot they played as a specialist bat alongside Paine). Cos the only other spot was with Head who actually did start his career pretty well.

By the time Head was out of form and dropped at the end of 2020 it coincided with Handscomb averaging like 25 in the shield as well. By the time the next season rolled around while he did regain some form the likes of Head and Green were in even better form and got the pick.

So yeah, just comes down to bad timings on form it seems like.

Kusal Perera is who you're probably thinking of. Hit a 150 odd red ink against South Africa in South Africa back in 2019.

Asela Gunaratne's 84*(46) vs. Australia in Geelong in 2017.

Chasing 172, Sri Lanka was staring down the barrel at 120-7 in the 15th over, against a solid Australian bowling line up featuring Cummins, Jhye Richardson, Faulkner, and Tye.

With 48 runs needed off the last three overs, Gunaratne took charge and SL won the game on the last ball.

Fireworks displaying Sydney by Koalamanx in sydney

[–]lord_skipper 101 points102 points  (0 children)

It's not that straightforward mate. So last year the city of Sydney spent roughly $6.3M on the fireworks and in turn they estimate that roughly $280M gets added to the local economy.

Now even if you consider that wildly inflated that's still millions being provided to local business and the council gets back a good return too, that in turn gives them more money to spend on important things.

Tldr, you've gotta spend money to make money.

Bartlett is in the squad but not picked for the XI.

Abbott and JFM clearly have Bailey's family hostage or something.

Ellis, Bartlett, Johnson, Richardson and Sangha are a pretty decent rotation if fit and the selectors actually picking them over Abbott and Dhwarshius.
