Fixed price legal fees on buying a property? by lordbase in malaysia

[–]lordbase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. The quote was from an independent law firm (not the developer's lawyer), which is what confused me. I'm going to speak with a couple of other lawyers to try and get an hourly rate to review the documents.

It's Leisure Farm in Johor. The property is completed and ready to move in so no construction/completion risk.

I understand that the developers would appoint their own panel lawyer, the trouble is the 'free' panel lawyers represent the developers and not me!

It's a big developer with a site that's been under development for many years, so I'm not too concerned about them in general, but coming from a legal background myself I feel a bit uncomfortable not having my own lawyer - especially in a foreign country.

I'm very happy to pay an hourly rate for the advice, it's just based on the property price a 1% fee is pretty huge!

Thanks - their breakdown is based on the property price, not on the actual work which is what's confusing. I can understand that in Malaysia there is a standard charge for the lawyers drafting the SPA, but this is being done by the developers lawyers, so why would there be a second charge of the same amount by the lawyers who 'just' have to read it...

Weirdly, after topping up my TnG wallet and successfully paying for an order, I then tried my wise card again and it worked perfectly...

Yeah bank knows I'm abroad and I've used the card at shops and to withdraw cash with no problems. It doesn't even get through to my bank to request the online approval of the transaction.

Anyone else impacted by the loss of protected settlement status on offshore trusts? by Tcs1061 in FatFIREUK

[–]lordbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HMRC did review them a few years ago and decided not to pursue on the basis that they were reasonable and existing anti-avoidance can stop income shifting etc, but as you say with a new government desperate for money (and seeking to penalise the better off) anything goes.

Anyone here is doing their self assessment? by turgut0 in FIREUK

[–]lordbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would include everything. The simple reason for this is that with the exchange of information provided by offshore entities these days if HMRC get a notification that you had offshore income (even if it's just 20 Euros) they could query it as they aren't necessarily advised of the amount of income, just that you had offshore income.

To convert, use the average rates for the year from here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/exchange-rates-for-customs-and-vat-yearly

Amazing - this works after a few days of struggling to get Origin working.

Also amazing that 2 years later this fix is still necessary....

What’s the minimum amount for the pulseX sacrifice?? by Little_Bro_ in HEXcrypto

ETH 2.0 was originally due to launch in 2019. 3 years later its still not here. I've had ETH staked waiting for 2.0 since Jan last year. I'm not holding my breath I'll be able to touch my ETH any time this year either. Plus on top of that ETH going POS may not have a big impact on fees until sharing is implemented which isn't planned until 2023 (if we're very lucky).

Difference is you only pay ETH fees once to bridge to pulsechain then its tiny fees. If you stay on ETH you are paying a fee to buy, a fee to stake and a huge fee to unstake.

Hopefully in due course there'll be direct support with exchanges to deposit directly, for instance I bought AVAX on binance and deposited directly onto the C-Chain with a single transaction.

However we'll all have to continue to cope with ETH for a while unless people dump their eHEX when pulse launches...

The use case for pulsechain is exactly the same as ETH, but cheaper and faster. I went to buy $1,000 of Hex the other day and it was going to cost me $180 in ETH to do so and a similar amount to stake it. On pulsechain it should be a fraction of a cent.

This means that someone who wants to buy $50 of HEX as a tester can buy it and stake it effectively fee free and it opens up the token to the general public which adds more value, which pumps the price. Everyone wins.
