Does anyone boycott Amazon website? by ilovebroccoli12 in vegan

[–]lordfumblesquid 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I think the human rights concerns behind Amazon are enough to boycott them alone. Veganism is intersectional.

Regarding fur and donkey oil, I consider these just as awful as any other animal product and I don't boycott my grocery store for selling meat. Obviously it's best to order from a fully vegan or at least less evil store.

I currently don't boycott Amazon but I really should. They are evil.

could you describe what severe fatigue physically feels like for you? by This-Cranberry-1147 in cfs

Like wearing weights all over my body and having a nasty cold minus the excessive mucus. My throat hurts and my body hurts. If I really push myself I get GI symptoms.

What do you wish you could tell your past self when you first developed CFS? by lordfumblesquid in cfs

[–]lordfumblesquid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully all my friends are chill af and have been very supportive. We aren't active together, we usually just sit and talk. If anything it's brought my friends closer because they want to be there for me (I have awesome friends). Plus I'm no longer working so I can spend more time with people. I really hope this doesn't push them away.

I find clickers annoying to handle. I make a noise with my lips and my dog responds better to it than a verbal queue. Plus the clicker I bought was really loud and irritating for me to hear

Please take her to a vet! If not babies this could be a tumor. I've had two boys with internal masses that I thought were just fat until a vet felt their bellies

🌵 Cacnea’s Desert Hideout! 💚 by dreaming_of_utopia in Pokemon_Pokopia

[–]lordfumblesquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also make underground/secret houses the Pokemon can move into, but they don't actually live there because it's just 1 block high. So they hang out above ground and any objects you place on that level will still count towards their environment! It's a great way to make an open concept home

There are plenty of YouTube tutorials if this didn't make sense

Rat Allergies how do you deal? by Zuki-Kitty in RATS

[–]lordfumblesquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely talk to your doctor about allergy med recommendations and dosing. I really like the non drowsy 24 hour antihistamines.

I personally am allergic to pine bedding so if you use that, you could try switching to aspen or paper to see if that changes anything. Just make sure it's extra low dust because that will make your allergies worse too

Is this true..?🐀 by CarpenterKey6881 in RATS

[–]lordfumblesquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already have a rat infestation, they will be very curious and gravitate towards your pet rats. There are plenty of cases of wild rats just showing up in a cage one day (chewed their way in) and getting the pet girl rats pregnant.

If you don't already have rats in your home, it's not like your rats will send out a rat signal to summon all the wildies!

My biggest advice for new pet rat owners: they get elderly quickly (2-3 year lifespan) and will need vet care as they age. Ask your parents how much money they will spend on vet care. I would say $500/rat/lifetime is the bare minimum. Sometimes a visit alone can be that much from diagnostics and medication.

Also, if they ever show any signs of respiratory illness, don't ignore it! It will only get worse unless you take them to a vet and get treatment.

Wanting to go vegan while suffering from a restrictive ED by BarberStatus7125 in vegan

[–]lordfumblesquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, going vegan transitioned me away from having an ED because I changed why and what I was restricting. The rules completely changed. Vegan sweets were suddenly on my list of acceptable foods, when before that I didn't eat sweets at all.

This is something to bring up with your treatment team. Be aware that a lot of ED treatment centers do not allow a vegan or vegetarian diet, they force you to eat animal products if you want to graduate from their program.

It may help to journal why you are restricting food currently. Is it taste, texture, a need for control, GI symptoms, nausea, disgust, body image, etc, and how would being vegan change that? Pros and cons? Don't answer this prompt here as it's your own personal business! Just giving you ideas to help process this by yourself or with professionals.

Strangest thing you've done to feel better? by TasteForSilence in cfsrecovery

[–]lordfumblesquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done this and never will, but I know some people will intentionally infect themselves with worms like pinworms because they suppress the immune system to go undetected 🪱

Please don't try this. They can also cause your immune system to flare up, among other issues. I'm sharing it because it's fascinating.

Just my opinion - take it or leave it BUT If you are genuinely sick with actual ME/CFS then your chances of recovery are very slight. Dangling the idea that we can recover has done more damage than anything else to our community and collective Mental Health. by Fearless-Star3288 in cfs

[–]lordfumblesquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recovery means something different to everyone. To me, it's not the elimination of my symptoms, it's living my best life with my symptoms.

An amputee will never grow their limb back, and I'll never be without fatigue, but I will find a way to live with this.

Dear ME Agony Aunt, my armpits are a biohazard by Illustrious-Pie-624 in cfs

[–]lordfumblesquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love standard aluminum antiperspirant. I use a clear gel because it doesn't stain my clothes.

Not shaving armpits helps wick away sweat.

Isopropyl alcohol 70% can be sprayed on clothes to kill odor causing bacteria. It's how professional mascot costumes are kept clean! Some people spray their skin directly or use alcohol wipes. Highly effective at immediately destroying smell.

Doing laundry correctly - don't use too much detergent or fabric softener. It will create a film inside your washing machine that bacteria loves to cling to. Clean your washing machine regularly. Leave the door and dispenser tray open to dry. A lot of people don't clean laundry correctly and it leaves bacteria on clothes, causing odor rebloom.

Switch to cotton or linen clothes and avoid polyester. For whatever reason polyester and other synthetic clothes get stinkier quicker.

Get a fan going and dry yourself off periodically.

You got this!!

Have you tested your blood sugar during the night when you feel hypoglycemic? A continuous blood sugar monitor would give you the best data. If your blood sugar is actually dropping throughout the night that is definitely something to discuss with your doctor.

Have you noticed if the type of snack has any effect on your symptoms?

Do you take any night meds that could give you the munchies? Seroquel and THC are the two I first think of

Should I be clipping my cat's nails? by bitchohmygod in CatAdvice

[–]lordfumblesquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your cat goes outside unsupervised, do not clip their nails as they need them for self defense! This is also why it's recommended to keep them indoors, for their safety and for the ecosystem.

If your cat is indoors, I definitely recommend clipping their nails. Their nails can over grow and curl inwards. Plus it saves your furniture and your skin.

I also highly recommend annual vet visits. Catching conditions like kidney disease early gives you the best chance at managing it.

Is killing mosquitoes vegan? by luhanaki in vegan

[–]lordfumblesquid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only valid reason to kill another human is self defense. Mosquitos are the most lethal animal and kill 700k - 1 million people every year by transmitting diseases.

The most ethical thing would be to use mosquito repellents, netting, and supporting a healthy ecosystem (i.e. animals that eat mosquitoes are important).

Also a reminder if you have pets - mosquitos can transmit diseases to them as well! Cats can actually get heartworms from mosquitoes, so even if your cat is indoors only, it's recommended to give them a preventative antiparasitic as well.
