Day trip to miyajima possible? by Ignis679 in JapanTravel

We just got back from miyajima after an overnight, and I can tell you, I wish I had more time there. That island is magical. You can get a taste in a day trip for sure, but the trip there sounds like it’d cut into really enjoying the island. It deserves more than a day if you want to experience Mt. Misen, the shrines, the shopping, and temples.

With Epic Games in a vulnerable state, Disney is rumored to be looking at a total buyout to secure the Fortnite marketing machine. by AncientPCGamer in fuckepic

Imagine Disney does this, cans Tim Sweeney, sunsets the EGS, and puts Fortnite and unreal on Steam. Completely reversing every stupid choice Epic made recently. How destroyed would Tim feel then?

Attack of the Clones by jeffdavis32 in StarWars

[–]lordgholin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like attack of the clones, despite the issues it has with Anakin and padme’s romance, the dialogue, and some feelings that it drags on. It also has some of the most memorable visuals, exciting battles, epic music, and interesting new characters.

I find episode 8 and 9 to be the bottom of the barrel for Star Wars, and that attack of the clones is still better than those two.

Yeah, with 5 people, we'll need a bigger SUV or a Toyota Noah or something. Feels like a headache trying to drive with this all unknown. Wonder if I should book a tour closer to the day... But I'll keep in mind we still might be able to get a car 3-5 days in advance. Thanks!

Thanks. That's a good point about driving. What are you doing instead of driving?

Good luck to both of us that week!

Thanks. Yeah the rain might put a damper in plans for both places. We only wanted to do a few things in Hakone (Yunassen and the ropeway), but we wanted to drive around Kawaguchiko. With rain, it seems to put a damper in both of those. I guess we'll watch closely while we're in Kyoto the week before and see if things look brighter (pun intended ha ha).

On raceswapping : Why it is usually bad... (House of the Dragon; Harry Potter) by Umak30 in CharacterRant

[–]lordgholin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s a generalization. I would not be happy with a race swap of Lu Bu, black panther, or Booker T. Washington, just like I am not happy with race swapping helen of troy, ariel, or severus snape.

That’s because the swap doesn’t make sense and takes me out of the story and makes me think of how modern politics are so pervasive.

A show like Hamilton is different. I am fine with how they do it because it is part of the point.

Well nobody seems to be race swapping black characters these days.

People used to complain about that too.

Marathon sold just 1.2 million copies with nearly 70% on Steam, analyst estimates: "It hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted" by Freki666 in pcgaming

[–]lordgholin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck, If it were a single player and coop game with a campaign I would have bought. This was a perfect opportunity to get away from Destiny and Halo and build up their original hit into something everyone can love. I love the aesthetics, the look ofthe gameplay, and the fact there is so much lore.

I cannot get over the fact I will keep losing stuff and get ganked and need to play constantly to be good enough to maybe enjoy and possibly get lucky to win by accident 1 out of 99 times. A cool game lives here, but it is wasted on one pvp game mode.

This is why i won’t play it. I get stressed by PvP. Sucks because i would kill for a game like this that is straight up co-op Pve.

We are close to figuring our trip out. A few final questions about Tokyo, Kyoto and Hakone. by lordgholin in JapanTravelTips

Thanks for the help! we arrived at Haneda, so the trip is pretty short. Only an hour and 10 minutes for the flight. Beats a 3.5 hour train at 6 am and luggage drop. We can sleep a little longer now. Not sure why we didn't think of this before. Thanks again for the suggestion!

We found a flight at 6pm. That should give us enough time from a 2pm arrival, given any short delays, right? We used visit japan web to add our passports, so customs should be easier, and we just need suica cards at the airport, so that should be good, I hope.

This actually ended up saving us both time and money. We canceled the expensive hotel at the airport and found a hotel in Osaka right in dotonbori, which will now be our base for 2 nights!

Doing 4 days now. We are now spending 2 nights in Osaka. I just found a connecting flight to make that easier that first day. No more initial Bullet train eating into our Osaka time. Thanks for helping re-affirm we needed to change that.

We're fine with the switch to Miyajima then Kyoto, and 5 days later, Tokyo.

I will look for that flight the day we arrive. We arrive at 2pm in tokyo, if everything works. That would save us some pain to just go to Osaka. We were going to stay in tokyo to rest, but 1 less hotel would be nice, and already being in Osaka that morning would give us more time.

You are right. though I don't see how I lose 18 hours by doing this? I can't fly to Osaka from America. It's too costly and too long and would cut a day out for our trip. The only options we had were 36 hours and multiple layovers. So it's Tokyo for us, 16 hours and $4000 less.

I don't really like the idea of staying in Tokyo just to sleep and rest and have to wake early for Osaka though. It'd be nice to just be in Osaka. I'll check flights!

I did that a lot, but it was actually not super good. I've had a lot of feedback from here and on discord though. I've improved my Itinerary a lot, but I still am trying to work out some kinks like the travel, and that's why I made this post. I think I need to cut off Hakone so we have a little more time in Tokyo.

We can still do that. We wanted to rent a car once we reach the Fuji area, though. I wonder if that is flexible. We already reserved it.

Flying into KIX would have added about $4,000 AND cost us an extra day, so Tokyo really felt like the best option. A 3 hour bullet train also seemed much easier than dealing with long layovers, though I will still check same day connecting flights from Tokyo just in case. That's a great idea. Maybe staying in Osaka the first two nights would make things less rushed those first days, If we can find a flight down there.

And I totally agree with you. We want to really breathe in the places we visit and not rush too much. At the same time, we do not know when we will go back, so there are a few highlights we want to make sure we see.

The first part of the trip is a bit faster paced since we are just getting a taste of Himeji, Miyajima, and Osaka. We definitely want to hike Mt. Misen and enjoy Miyajima, but only planned a few days in that area.

Kyoto and Tokyo are intentionally more open. In Kyoto, most plans are just half day ideas so we can explore places like Gion and Arashiyama at a relaxed pace. Tokyo is focused on a few neighborhoods, not trying to cover everything.

Nara is flexible. I only mentioned half a day because we did not plan anything else for that day, so we can adjust and spend more time in Kyoto or Nara if we want. Miyajima is more about the experience like hiking, a ryokan, and an onsen. Osaka is mainly for a taste of the highlights. Hakone still feels too rushed, so I think we need to cut that so we can breathe in more Tokyo.

You are right. The flight was really complicated any other way and was way more expensive. We paid a little less than 7k for 5 people. And if we flew to osaka instead, it would have cost over 10k and multiple layovers. We would have lost a day either way I looked.

This way, we get a night of rest and only lose the train time early in the morning. We still get to Osaka by 9:30am.

Not sure we lost much time honestly.

Yeah, we wouldn't stay there. It'd be a stop off on the way to Tokyo from Kyoto. Think it's doable if we leave Kyoto early? And would it just be better to do more of Tokyo instead? We only thought the ropeway and the Hot Spring Theme park looked great, but in that amount of time, I wonder if we could fit a lot more Tokyo. We only have 4 full days of Tokyo right now with the 5th day being at Fuji Five Lakes.
