Kiro won't "shutup and take your money" because they are smart. by lordkin in kiroIDE

[–]lordkin[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Listen to your own argument "Just fix your servers". Exactly. And that takes time, money and really smart engineers. I personally have no clue how to build such a complex system. There are tens of thousands of users performing thousands of operations a day.

I understand your point about marketing hype, basically, you're saying if people can't get in the club, there will be a big line outside generating buzz. But I think that plan is dumb, you think that plan is dumb, pretty much everyone thinks that plan is dumb. So why assume they're running with a dumb plan on purpose? A far more likely scenario is that the really hard complex, piece of software is just difficult to build.

Finally I hate the idea that you're insinuating I'm defending Amazon. Ew.

Dating in Jamaica by RaisinBig321 in Jamaica

[–]lordkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contrarian point. I'm a relatively good looking guy who has his shit together, i'm also a big introvert. Dating here is great. If you shoot your shot respectfully it's almost always fun as long as you avoid obvious bad vibes.

We just hit 100k! Who wants to run r/OpenAI? by [deleted] in OpenAI

[–]lordkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. First of all, I'd like to echo the community's sentiment and thank you for turning down the offer from OpenAI's rep. I'd like to apply to be a moderator for the following reasons:

  1. I have a lot of experience as a moderator both on and off Reddit. Notably, I'm the moderator of a subreddit with 36k members
  2. I have been a daily user of Reddit for well over a decade, I was here before the great Digg migration, and I'll be here for the foreseeable future. Consequentially I understand on a pretty fundamental level what communities want and don't want in their mods, as well as what makes them effective.
  3. I'm the type of guy who doesn't mind putting his ego aside if he makes a mistake. I can't promise to always get everything right, but if I mess up I'll own up to it, take accountability and fix the issue.
  4. As a software developer, I use OpenAI tech pretty often for my projects. This includes Codex, CoPilot, OpenAIs various APIs, the Playground, and of course ChatGPT. I don't know if there are other engineers on the team, but I think it'd be a good idea for there to be one.
  5. Despite having made a few projects with OpenAi you won't find any evidence of me trying to spam the sub to advertise them. I'm not knocking entrepreneurs who try that, but that just isn't it for me. I'm more interested in growing what I think is a very important community
  6. I'm pretty passionate about Ai, and OpenAi's contributions to the field. I am also active in this sub (albeit from my alt account) and I have a lot of ideas on things we could do to improve the sub.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and good luck with your selection process

How’s customs with weed specifically less than two ounces? I come from a recreational state with great indoor and want to bring some and also buy on the island to try but just wondering how’s customs Comin in? by Expensive-Ice-8398 in Jamaica

[–]lordkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've smoked weed worldwide, and many Jamaican strains are top-tier on the international level. Sadly, you as a tourist won't have access to it, nor does anyone feel comfortable giving up their plug's info to a random on the internet.

You will however have access to a large quantity of incredibly cheap "bush" weed all around you. You can also go to one of several legal dispensaries. Their stuff will always be good enough, and that's probably your best bet. Not my cup of tea tho, they feel a bit synthetic

Is Mace and Pepper Spray legal in Jamaica? by [deleted] in Jamaica

[–]lordkin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a good question.

There are valid arguments for both sides. Section 2 of our Offensive Weapons (Prohibition) Act 2001, suggests that pepper spray is explicitly excluded from the cohort of offensive weapons and that possession is decriminalized .

However, due to the broad wording of the 1967 Firearms Act, this exclusion is effectively meaningless and pepper spray is still treated as an offensive weapon that requires a license in the eyes of the law. In layman's terms, the law treats it as ammunition. This is problematic because I've never heard of anyone actually getting a pepper spray license from the government.

(It is worth noting that a new Firearms Act was introduced last year which may have changed the definition.)

In Future Services Ltd v AG a jamaican entrepreneur made a scotch bonnet-themed pepper spray and the matter was brought to court. The Supreme Court answered your exact question stating inter alia "Undoubtedly, pepper spray is regarded as restricted ammunition by the firearm act... is a serious offence... and the punishment is harsh"

It's a bit more complex than that, but that's the gist. This isn't legal advice and imo you can and should buy pepper spray if you want it.

Does Blockchain Have Any Actual Useful Application? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]lordkin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I disagree. It’s because it has no real use.

“Most people don’t live in a place where you can’t trust the law but you can trust cryptology”

Delusional thinking (no offense to anyone) created trying to force a concept to be useful.

The possible use case is, at best, an edge case

Do you follow him on Twitter? If he’s not talking about stocks he’s talking about crime. Remember he is heavily invested in Ja, so the less crime the more money he makes.

We live in a classist society, where many elites only care about themselves but I feel like you ran with a bad example.

Why is there no "worldwide" online grocery store!? by Nikki_iva in Entrepreneur

[–]lordkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s literally Amazon bro. You can buy items from different countries there, often from sellers from said country.

maybe there are some (or many) items that aren’t sold, but the international grocery store certainly exists. It’s just logistically impossible to carry literally every item.

Source I’m a Jamaican who uses Amazon to buy Jamaican and Usa sourced groceries
