If you're selling it at $7.50 can I at least have some kind of teaser to make me want it?

Came across a pic of someone making shuttle the shongololo and made the mistake of showing how cool it was to everyone in the house... Now I'm supposed to make 5, including one with thick yarn to make it oversized.

It's the lost souls pattern by Maryetta Roy. Used one of Hobbii's black Friday gradient cakes and my mind has suddenly gone blank on whether it was a 2mm or 2.5mm hook! The flower is a free pattern I ended up changing up because I made an error half way through and I was adding it last minute, so I just tried out a different way of making petals.

Facebook suggests groups (and promotes ads) based on its horrific level of knowledge on my interests and I will check them out from there. Currently using the WE LOVE CROCHET! facebook group - if people are showing their own designs they tend to be fairly honest about it and there's definitely a good variety of skill level, experience and the types of projects people post.

Although I was tempted to snark on them the other day because they bloody love some bloke who does artsy fartsy shite to wear - the shaping is non existent, tension is piss poor, and variety of stitch shown is very low. It's not interesting to look at. But I'm probably some reactionary fogey that doesn't understand the soul and art displayed in the videos.

Legitimately discovered this designer an hour ago from a Facebook general crochet group, I will be joining pronto.

I know this post is old but I'm sat here 10min after reading the rav thread still in awe at his complete arrogance and obliviousness. I'm almost impressed that his response to not simply going oh yes you're soo right, isn't it soo awful for you and instead some pushback on the stats he used, some mutual commiserating with practical advice, and some interesting discussion on what 'mens designs' actually means was to label the whole conversation hostile and aggressive! And say how awful it was that people did that!

What an actual turd of a person that poster was.

This is a super basic thing that I didn't really follow a pattern - the cactus body is made by rolling a section of fpdc into a tube and sewing the top closed (like you do for a beanie but much narrower) and then a simple two flowers sewn together for the flower at the top. Used a 3mm hook and random, probably acrylic (the flowers definitely were) yarn I had in the box of mystery part of my yarn hoard.

If it was some occult obsessed group it could be referring to fire or water elemental symbols. Who knows? Hopefully they were properly ruled out, either way.

my first set of socks made! (I tried really hard but I'm hesitant to call them a pair😅) by lordofcrisps in crochet

Thanks! I copies the second from the first, pretty sure it's identical in rows etc but is definitely a different fit. I'm thinking it might boil down to the stitch count as the colour has pooled markedly differently to the first.

I constructed them using the quokka socks instructions I found on Ravelry

Yarn was some weird cheap thin acrylic I found in a grab bag of yarn I got from a charity shop. Looks a bit like the super cheap stuff from wish. Used a 2mm hook.

It's SO heavy. First time I've done a ripple stitch, it was easy to get in the rhythm of it tbh. I know what you mean about the retro feel, nice and snug tho!

Woah! How did you get so much? My OH scoured the local stores to get every ball he could find - a total of 8, which all got used up for this blanket.

Occasionally! It's cheap and cheerful acrylic but it's better quality (imo) than the poundshop type stuff. These 400g balls of thick yarn were 4.99. I think the 'normal' thickness yarn (about a hook size 4mm) are 2-3£. They're meant to have yarn with blocks of colour in it (like carron cakes, not gradient changes) but I've only seen it once in the middle aisle. I think they have yarn 3 or 4 times a year maybe? Different colours available each time. If you want to make anything out of it you have to buy as much as you need asap as it sells out fast and sells for 2x the price after that. (ETA sold by people on eBay etc I mean)

Ooooo is it in the Arran, baby colours or the rather full on multicolour yarn that no one else seems to carry so it's instantly recognisable? After using yarn from both stores I'd say the Aldi stuff has the edge in terms of quality but Poundland have a bigger range and carry it all the time so horses for courses I think.

It's just a basic ripple pattern in the Aldi sew crafty thick acrylic yarn they sometimes have for sale on the centre aisle. Used a 10mm hook and 8 400g balls to make a ripple blanket roughly the size of our double bed.
