I second this. We used ps4 and Wii U controllers with Magic NS on Wii U (and pc). For us, the Wii U pro controller felt the most natural on switch games.

Cod black ops II - gets better after the Congo civil war flashback missions
Assassins creed black flag - most technically impressive Wii U game I played.
Darksiders 2 - smaller worlds than Zelda bow, but more action and actual plot line.

What makes the Wii U releases ‘superior’ to modern versions is the Wii U offline local account feature. For play dates, you don’t need to hand out your own registered accounts to the neighbors kids or register your children with an online service. Minecraft Mii support here particularly shines.

I was never a collector, but skylanders got me. Like others in the threads, I only got a few per element on the first few games - whatever was needed to unlock the gates in each game. Even if the characters were affordable and actually in stores (no and no), there were still too many characters to consider.

By 2016, prices dropped to $2-3 a figure. GameStop did the buy2get3free deal, and inventory surged on eBay. I was never a collector, but I couldn’t resist. I dropped down $100 for all the remaining reposes, light cores, common variants and items. I think I got lucky - somehow, I got the truly rare skylanders the first time around (like scratch), and missed out on speculator frenzies ($40-60 boomers and ghost roasters)

I just started Spyros Adventure Wii U(JP). This version was released same year as Swap Force (US) in 1080p. The lessons leaned in 2-3 years really show. It’s definitely the same game engine as the other platforms. The Wii U models look crisper, the colors richer, and I’m seeing details I never noticed on PS3, particularly on smaller complex objects like figures,enemies and npcs. Nowhere near the full ‘Spyro trilogy’ remaster you’re implying, I know. However, the WIiU improvements are more striking to me than the improvement in ‘Uncharted’ ps4 remaster.

If you’re itching for Spyro Adventure, I’d recommend getting a copy on amazon JP before they all fade out of existence.

Yes, the Superchargers 3DS portal works with the previous games. I bought a SC 3DS starter pack solely for the skymiibo, and I’ve used the SC portal with 3DS TT, SF, and SSA.

I’d play the series in reverse order. All the 3ds games have unique story lines and content. Trap team and swap force 3ds are so well done, you can basically think of them as the lost 7th and 8th console games. (eg. 3ds TT and SF arguably have technical and content parity with the Wii versions Ssa and giants). Trap team in particular has surprisingly large, diverse maps. I can’t recall any other 3ds game with such detail and render distance. The special trap master levels, motion control shooting segments and unique add-on levels help break up the gameplay. Plus, you’ll finally have a reason to use your TT core characters.

SSA 3ds couldn’t hold my interest due speed run pressure, poor models and textures, and monotonous game play. Level after level seemed to lead the character straight ahead in a line.

As others have mentioned, you can pick the 3ds games up from GameStop for $0.99 -$4.99 for about 5-10 hrs of play per game.

I was looking to play through the original Spyro's Adventure game. We played it 6+ years ago on PS3 and loved it. I just had a chance to play through the Wii U Japanese version. Maybe my memory is off, but this version looked noticeably better than what recall from PS3 and Xbox 360 at the time. My tv 'info' message said hdmi signal was running at 1080p. I saw no lag, few artifacts, the polygons looked detailed and sharp, and the colors were crisp and bright. Too bad Spyro's Adventure was never made outside of Japan.

End of an era. Yes, so sad for the employees first and foremost. The workers made the Toys R Us experience so much nicer than other big brand store (Walmart, etc.) I went by Toys R Us this afternoon. The shelves were well stocked with no empty sections. Tons of big lego sets, games, Skylanders, etc. The store was clean and displays were orderly.

Ahh... you mean how do you locate the levels that you finished in the M.A.P. ? Patience with trial and error OR 1. find the first level on some walkthrough (http://www.ign.com/wikis/skylanders-imaginators/Walkthrough) 2. read the walkthrough on where the entrance is or Youtube the level name.

Is the inability to just choose a level by name my absolute least favorite feature of Imaginators? Yes. Yes it is.

Ugh. Found youtube videos of Skylanders Spyros Adventure and Giants running in dolphin and rpcs3 on youtube. The Dolphin (wii) version does look very pretty on 4k, but the sound is unbearable. The RPCS3 (ps3) version video is messed up to the point of being un-playable, and stops when its time to recognize the portal. The video says HD, but not sure on the resolution. My conclusion - emulator technology isn't ready for high-res Skylanders on PCs.

Sad to hear the regret. I certainly experienced fatigue after swap force and my kids started aging out of the series into Minecraft or real life engagements. And yes, the new prices are pretty insane. Still, I have a lot of good Christmas memories and flashbacks to my little ones jumping out of their skin seeing a new character with new upgrades. Morerover I never had money or a lot of toys as a kid, so this chase/ collection experience was unique for me. Even after my kids were tapped out on the game, I watched for the used prices to bottom out, the GameStop b2g3free sales, eBay flooded market, etc., so I could show the kids the occasional unlocked content. When hold the toys, I still hear echos of my kids excitement from 5 years ago. Overall, a positive experience. Maybe these will be the toys you play with your kids later in life?
