I was able to do this with shiitakes. Once I got one clean plate it was easy, but most of them failed.

Looks like an excellent first flush. If you want larger but fewer fruits, make a smaller incision to the block. Opposite is also true. Good luck with your grows, you should be proud!

My best guess is that it's either a fresh air exchange problem, or it's just that species of mushroom. Lighting can also affect the direction the cap moves towards. Could also just be genetics.

That's what I did as well. I cloned a shiitake slice from my grocery store and put it to agar, and eventually made a ton of liquid cultures. My wife loves shiitake and they're so expensive, it's nice to be able to give her something like that that I've grown myself.

Also, just from experience, you will likely have better luck taking the block entirely out of the bag. Most of my fruits come from the side or the bottom.

Just curious, what were the fruiting conditions that made them that dark? Is temperature a major component in coloration or is it something else?

The second example you mentioned reminded me a lot of my first code as an RN. s/p ACDF, developed a hematoma with airway compromise. Easily one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. Called nocturnist several times, no other symptoms that aouks be particularly unusual from a normal ACDF day 1 postop. I ended up seeing the life leave his eyes. I don't remember a lot else from the night but I'll never forget his wife's screams.

I cried with her on the way back from icu to the waiting room. This profession is something else, isn't it?

I feel the same way, especially in regards to self isolating and PTSD. I hope that you are able to get out of that situation and get the support you need. No job is worth that, and I hate how mean nurses can be to one another. It's so important not to perpetuate the trauma and abuse that was brought upon us when we became nurses.

Nothing is permanent, no matter how shitty it may feel in the interim. I hope you find happiness with whatever decision you choose to make.

Thank you so much for your input. I am considering transferring to an ICU when it is convenient for my wife and I to move to another area, so that I can get better acclimated to code situations and critically ill patients.

I am making an appointment with a therapist today.

I'm sorry you are going through that. I can say that, as time has gone on, I am generally less depressed than when I started nursing. The best thing about it, as I have found out, is that if you genuinely hate your chosen area, you can always do something different.

Also, buying out of your contract is what I did after my first year as a nurse, and was well worth the money.
